Published on November 9, 2017 - This week we drove a giant billboard truck through the streets of Toronto’s financial district, demanding that Bill Morneau be fired as finance minister.
It’s not just a billboard truck. It’s like a mobile Jumbotron — with giant, bright TVs on the back and sides of the truck. You can’t miss it. Everyone was talking about it. People were taking “selfies” in front of it.
It had short, powerful messages on it that the Liberals wish would go away, like:
- - Bill Morneau hid his French villa from the ethics boss. Why?
- - Morneau profited $5M from tax changes he implemented
- - Morneau's staff say he never recused himself from conflicts
- - Sign the petition, stop the corruption
And, wow, did people on the street love it!
Most people on Bay Street were too rushed to stop to talk with us. But on the main street, people had plenty to say, and it was nearly unanimous: Bill Morneau has got to go.
I believe we’re making a difference — fighting corrupt Liberals in a way that no-one else is willing to do.
Liberal Finance Minister Bill Morneau says he recused himself from decisions that would have affected his huge financial company, called Morneau Shepell. He says that at least twice he left cabinet meetings on the subject.
Sure, he still owned shares in his family company, Morneau Shepell, that directly benefited from his tax changes. Sure, he made a $5 million windfall after his company’s stock surged since he became Finance Minister. But still: on two occasions, he said he was so careful, he left the room and let others make the decisions.
That’s not what his staff say.
We made an Access to Information request for any Finance Department records about any time Morneau removed himself from a conversation for ethical reasons. Anything — any memo, any record at all. And here's what the department of finance said:
“after a thorough search, no records exist in the Department of Finance Canada concerning this request.”
No records. Not a single email; not a single memo; not a single scrap of paper. There are no records whatsoever showing the Bill Morneau ever recused himself for a conflict of interest.
His own staff say so!
Morneau has to go.
His tax hikes, his spending sprees, his huge deficits, his carbon tax — it’s a war on the Canadian middle class. But more than that: you just can’t trust a word he says. He lies — to the public, to the ethics commissioner, to his own staff.
If he won’t resign, he needs to be fired.
Canada deserves better than a finance minister who is a cheater. His own staff say there is no record of him ever withdrawing from a decision because of a conflict. He’s a liar.
Sorry, he has to go.
Please sign the petition if you agree.
But that's not all, we also want to rent a jumbotron to drive around Bay Street in Toronto. So all the bankers, all the stockbrokers, all the masters of the universe can see the unethical man Trudeau is keeping as finance minister.
We’ll have big, blazing messages on the truck’s massive TV, pointing out how Morneau lied; how he covered up; how his own department says there are no records of him recusing himself. We’ll drive the truck for hours, with all those facts on the big TV on the back.
We know Trudeau already called one emergency caucus meeting to deal with Morneau’s scandals. Let’s keep up the pressure!
Sign the petition!
Canada deserves better than a finance minister who is a cheater. Justin Trudeau must fire Bill Morneau immediately over his conflict of interest.
