WATCH: For some, welfare has become the "family business" -- and that's bad for all of us

David MenziesMission Specialist

Welfare entitlements have gone far beyond temporary assistance to help those down on their luck while they get back on their feet.

That was the original idea behind welfare and most would agree that's a good thing.

But the further welfare moves away from that original idea, the more it can become like a family occupation.

The Mayor of Lewiston Maine, thinks making the welfare lifestyle a little less comfortable might be a way to reduce the cases of welfare fraud.

It may not happen, but maybe the Mayor on to something here.

I worked for years at a job that paid less than welfare.

Jimmy Da silva please prove which rich people have used welfare? You ask others for proof , show some yourself, and not some BS left wing blog.

Well put Sam… Over my many spins around the sun I have encountered too many people who are willing to scam the system because those in charge of handing out “benefits” are part of the system and the system is what gives them employment… Far too many of us know people who are, or have been, scamming the system but don’t step forward to identify this “crime” against ordinary taxpayers… And then of course there are the “advocates” who benefit from perpetuating the welfare/disability scam… Common sense in all of us identifies those playing the welfare/disability game… You can see it at play every time you sit for some time in the waiting room of a community health clinic, or worse yet, in a hospital emergency room… I speak from experience, having watched my 94-year-old mother sit in a Toronto emergency ward for 7 hours, waiting to get admitted while “game players” went to the front of the line… She never was admitted; only given some pain pills; sent home; and died of a heart attack two weeks later…

The thing with depression and anxiety, is that it can be easily faked or exagerated by a patient in a doctor’s office. All a doctor really has to do, is write a note to whom it may concern, indicating that the patient has this diagnosis. And who are welfare to argue? There are in fact people that suffer from severe mental illness and can not obtain or keep their jobs. I’m not attacking those people. I’m going after the welfare leeches that know how to manipulate the system for their own gain, so they don’t have to work.

I don’t know about any of you,but I’ve had to work awful minimum wage jobs in my life before. When you work for min wage, it does not take long to grow enraged at able bodied people that live off your hard earned tax dollars. If I had to clean up garbage for a living, I don’t see why healthy people on welfare get to keep getting money for nothing.

Jimmy Da Silva my fiance is from Quebec and the cheap daycare is used by rich people while others suffer and wait in line. And now Angry Tom wants that for all of us.

Anyone else agree with me that the second that welfare was cut off for those who did not need it that Jimmy Da Silva and the left would have a cow

Jimmy we live in reality you live in a basement.

Jimmy i never get tired of the left using false words that Sarah Palin never said. Sorry but context was not a factor in Obamas stupidity, or did the US have 57 states at one time? LMAO
commented 2015-10-13 01:38:31 -0400
Jimmy Da Silva far too many milk the system and if we had checks and balances you would be the first to whine when some fraudster was cut off. I remember when Ralph Klein was picking on the poor by having a woman with 4 claims going cut off. WHAT A CROCK OF SH*T! The progressives were in full bleeding heart mode that time.

From the corporate Elites
To the dogs in the ditch—-
Everybody is going to shout ‘Wynne and Justin’

We’ve had a welfare industry in this country for years. From the low information voter, to all the non profits, to the high end welfare of government employees tucked away in obscure offices who don’t even know what their job is.
commented 2015-10-12 20:07:45 -0400
Rae Fraser, according to Jimmy, if a conservative quotes Obama, it is always “out of context.”

And Charles Moulton, never ask Jimmy where he gets his thinking from … He has no idea, other than the little voices tell him what to say.
commented 2015-10-12 19:10:23 -0400

From reality. Not the conservative Kool-Aid.

Neither do I .

I never get tired of conservatives that use Obama’s quote out of context.

C’mon Natives !—- IS this current practise of institutionalized , government controlled raising of the the Children , not Reminiscent of former times. The same times that you sue everyone for? The same logic that destroyed your Culture. Well, some of us , can ID the same logic in Political so-called Leaders. More bureaucracy , more union jobs ,more pensions for the the ones that will Consume the billions of dollars that are ear -marked and meant for YOU.

“Pretty soon -Parents will realize that they no longer have the ability to raise their own Children. It is the Progressive way.” Under a Trudope or Tommie The Commie Gov’t children will be taken away from their parents to be raised in state indoctrination facilities, euphemistically called “daycare”!

Generational welfare creates a demanding ‘underclass’ of easily controlled ‘victims of society’ . As usual , rich corporations and Conservatives are the culprits. What was it that Obama stated—- ’ You didn’t build your business—-your much abused and maligned employees did it for you’. Strange how the Socialist mind works. I don’t quote this verbatim— but it is close enough. Did you ever notice – that those State created parasites are always the most demanding . Nothing is ever good enough for them and they are perpetual Victims. They do have a point. The system is designed to keep them moderately content , and always available for when required to ‘demonstrate their discontent’. Native Canadians are a prime example of this strategy. It works ! It is dependable ! Just ask Mulcair and or Justin. Pretty soon -Parents will realize that they no longer have the ability to raise their own Children. It is the Progressive way.

I didn’t say it was acceptable for anyone to do it, jackass. I just think it’s funny that conservatives always demonize people on welfare, but give a pass to conservative rich people that are unbelievably worse than some small minority that takes advantage of welfare to get chump change essentially.

Why doesn’t The Rebel cover big business and how they fuck tax payers out of billions and take advantage of everything? Why point the finger at people – who desperately need the assistance.

Jimmy said, "Let’s be honest here – you can find people that take advantage of program, perk and loophole. Including millionaires and billionaires. "

i.e. Therefore it is acceptable because others do it.

Jimmy said, “take advantage of EVERY program, perk and loophole. Including millionaires and billionaires.”

i.e. It is okay to scam the system simply because the loophole exists. The loophole exists to be exploited.

This, people, is call leftie moral superiority. Aren’t we all in awe of the massively superior moral integrity of the average leftie? I know I am!! (barf)

I think it’s quite appropriate for satire – considering the notion that everyone on welfare is trying to scam the system. The majority of people are legitimate. A small minority like everything else in life – tries to take advantage of the system.
commented 2015-10-12 04:18:20 -0400

I would hope so – depression and anxiety can be debilitating and make it so that you can’t properly function – thus not able to work.
commented 2015-10-12 04:08:19 -0400
You’re right. This doesn’t belong in satire.

David mentioned that he was contacted by a whistle blower. How can we contact David?

As much as I admire David Menzies this really should NOT have been posted under SATIRE… There is a shameless social mindset in some people that they are entitled to sponge off the society around them for their own imagined reasons… They certainly will not admit that they are scamming the system and just don’t care IF we taxpayers are foolish enough to feed their game… How long this has been going on?… Back in 1967, Canada’s Centennial Year, a lot of communities decided to “re-create” events from their own community’s history and many delved into their historical records to re-create, “council meetings from 1867”.. Remember?… I know for a fact that the staff of Georgina Township, Ontario, did the same in trying to stage a council meeting re-enactment…(My parents were good friends with the township clerk of the time) In digging through their historical records they found that a local family, that had been granted “welfare assistance” in 1867 was STILL ON THE DOLE in some fashion four generations later… Too many welfare scammers are shameless…

Did you know that if you bring a doctor’s note to the welfare office saying you have some mental health diagnosis, like anxiety or depression, you actually get a bigger welfare cheque?!
commented 2015-10-12 00:02:01 -0400

commented 2015-10-12 00:00:37 -0400
Let’s be honest here – you can find people that take advantage of program, perk and loophole. Including millionaires and billionaires.

The people who take advantage of welfare are a very small minority out of the people who really need it. Let’s not pretend that these people on welfare are living like kings.

Stephen Eisenberg said, “So I ask, should she be publicly outed and embarrassed simply because she is unable to fend for herself? Would this embarrassment make her further depressed to the point of ending it all?”

Everyone can find a person or two or three that really do need to collect welfare and no one that I know begrudges them for that because that is what the system was meant for, but it is the ones that scam the system that need to be “outed”.
