Ford must RESIST Liberal grovelling for official party status

David MenziesMission Specialist

The magic number for official party status in Ontario is eight seats and the Liberals finished this election with seven, one seat shy of holding official party status.

As it stands now, Liberals will not receive a portion of the funds distributed among official parties for research, staff salaries and other perks.

Liberal MPPs will essentially operate as independents and will be excluded from debates in the legislature where time is divided evenly between recognized parties.

The eight-seat rule isn’t hard and fast though, and in the past some Premiers have changed them, others have not. The usual suspects are pestering Premier-elect Ford to turn a blind eye to the rules and give Liberals official party status.

Watch as I give a reminder of how past Premiers have dealt with this issue and explain why Premier Ford should resist the Liberal grovelling.

As it stands, Ford says he’ll discuss the issue with his team in the days ahead but based on precedent alone, he should tell Wynne and company to hold a bake sale if they need to raise funds.

Tammie, I agree with you 99.999% of the time, but not in this case. Winning a by-election isn’t sufficient reason to give the Liberals official party status. Only achieving 8 seats does it. That’s the rule, that’s the standard they applied to the NDP when it had 7 seats, and that’s the standard that should apply to the Liberals now.

Sphincter / Ocean, your history here is well known. Your delusional position as the “great debater” is also known. No one takes you seriously, having this happen to you over and over and over must get to you after a while….oh well, that’s the lot you picked.

If the Liberal Party of Ontario wins a seat in the by-election, then it makes sense for them to have party status, until then, let them fundraise among their base to pay for their expenses.

If there was ever a party in Canada that did not deserve official party status, it is the Ontario Liberals, the party that abused Ontarians for the last fifteen years and have shown no signs of repentance or remorse. Ontario’s finances are in shreds, its economy having gone from the bulwark of Canada to a welfare province.

The Liberals didn’t give the NDP official party status when the NDP had seven seats, so they have no right or reason to expect the rules to be changed for them. Let them eat their own pudding, so to speak. Why not? Especially given their atrocious record of scandals and bad policy that they inflicted on the people of Ontario.

Doug Ford, the people of Ontario sentenced the Liberals to no official party status and you should not give it. They need to spend some time in the woodshed where they can ruminate on the reasons for their situation.

Good commentary as usual by David Menzies. I have mixed feelings about affording the undeserving Liberals official party status. Certainly to do so, when it is necessary, would contradict fiscal frugality and by doing so Ford would contradict his claimed budgetary values from the onset.

On the otherhand, the Premier who says, “You know me folks, I’m for the little guy.” Well, at this point in history, his long time political opponents have become “the little guys.” Would it therefore behoove the champion of the little guy to be magnanimous in victory? What to do? What to do?

Daniel Sphincter Ocean, he doesn’t have to do anything, the rules are the rules, and the Liberals no longer have official party status. As for liberals digging up stuff on him, they will do that anyways, just as sure as you reappear with a new alias so regularly. Ford could call the liberals gods, and they will still relentlessly attack him, only now, without official party status. They are nothing, just like you.

Sphincter/Ocean – the media despise him anyway…so do Liberals. Bending the knee to either is stupid!

Sphincter/Ocean – I doubt it!
I find lazy thinking bigots very unattractive; potty mouth isn’t appealing either!

I don’t live in Ontario but I imagine there must be many who would like to see the Liberals sit down and shut up for at least a couple of years before Ford even considers their request for official party status. Meanwhile, what’s wong with doing it the old fashioned way, getting their seat count up to eight by winning by-elections?
Yea, I know. Lotsa luck with that, LOL.

Daniel Ocean commented: (Stupidly)
" Better to have the Liberals as friends instead of enemies, because they will try to get revenge on him."

Lieberals have no friends. Hangers on, entitled to their entitlements, like minded cronies, crooks and thieves. That’s about it.

And: Doug Ford. DON’T DO IT!

Harvey Sphincter is back as Danny Ocean, bet he isn’t as handsome as George Clooney, I mean Looney!

Andrew the fake PhD Stephenson, the liberals did not win enough seats to remain with official party status. Those are the rules, and if they had won, they certainly would not change the rules for anyone. So what’s your problem? Rules don’t apply to you and your libtard friends?

Audit the previous government.

Prepare for a by-election when the witch finally steps down.

Deny the lieberals party status.

Kill cap and trade.

Use the not withstanding clause to refuse more illegals being parked in Toronto.

Work on employment and then build a massive refinery to take oil from Alberta. Sell it at an in-Ontario price – and only to Ontario residents and business.. See business come back.

Tell the feds to eff off when they impose the fed carbon tax and keep the money in Ontario.

Get used to the media spitting on the Conservatives and Doug Ford.

Tell Alberta to keep the Ontario share of the transfer payment and watch the east west love grow.

Deport any whining illegals back to Montreal if they are not working within 6 months.

Reduce all welfare payments to those who are able to work by 50% and six months later repeat – keep doing this until they are employed or move to Quebec.

Place Toronto on notice that it will not get additional funding for anything – they have a population large enough that they can tax those who live there.

Lots to do and it will not be easy.

And the media will hate him all the way.

Elections have consequences and if the citizens wanted more of the same they would have voted for more Liberals. And the citizens obviously despised Wynne.
The Liberals have to earn their way back to respectability and I willl be advising our local MPP elect personally.

Menzies is right. The Liberals’ list of offences against the people of Ontario is so grievous that they got what they deserved, i.e. being turfed from both government and official party status, which is what the voters dealt them on election day. By no means should they be given official party status after their sorry record and the vote.

Premier Doug Ford…The People have spoken….the liberals don’t deserve any mercy…they did not…I repeat…they did not show us any mercy!! You your self cannot make that decision(1 person) to give them a break!! Why do we have votes THEN!!!??? if someone starts to snivel and whine after they were tossed out to the curb because of their bullshit beliefs and corruption!!

Andrew, I would like to know the extent of any mess before claiming anything, surprised this escaped you as I did speak of an audit in my correspondence to the Premier elect, the one you decided to comment on.
So yes, I stand by my instructions for you to re-transmit up your keister.

Oh, and Tammie, lest you think it’s unimportant:

Yesterday, Fitch downgraded Ontario’s credit outlook from AA- stable to AA- negative. Not a downgrade per se… yet, a warning that a downgrade just got a whole lot more likely. I’m not the only one saying that Ford appears to have no idea what he’s doing, fiscally.

Andrew, you can re- transmit it up your keister. "

Why, Tammie? Does questioning Ford make you uncomfortable? Do you find it objectionable to point out that the guy promising to fix a mess might actually make it worse?

Andrew, Liberals wasted money hand over fist and created a disaster here in Ontario.
McGuinty & Wynne shafted this province for 15 years. "

Acknowledged.

As the Fraser Institute report says, will the new government fix it?

Since you seem to have missed this, I’ll re-transmit

10b existing deficit – 8b tax cuts + 6b “efficiencies” = -12b.

Comments?

There were a bunch of new seats added in this election. The Liberals still couldn’t get the 8 seats needed. They should not be allowed to have official party status. If they can win a by election or something down the road then they can get their status back. Until then they can go pound sand.
