Forget Earth Hour: Celebrate Human Achievement Hour with The Menzoid

David MenziesMission Specialist

Sorry, says David Menzies, "but partying like it's 1799 isn't just isn't my thing..."

He took to the streets of Toronto to ask ordinary people:

What are mankind's greatest inventions?

And tonight, will they be celebrating Earth Hour (in the dark with the "progressive" Luddites) or Human Achievement Hour like The Menzoid, with lights a-blazing?

Well done, David. I lived “earth hour” in northeastern SK until I was in grade 10 – that’s 16 years. I challenge the “earth hour people” to live the concept for one month ( January) in northeastern SK. That would be 191months less than my experience! After your experience, you may wish to join the human achievement day!

earth hour is right up there on my stupid list with lets change our clocks twice a year so we have a extra hour of daylight,I don’t see 25 hrs in a day but I sure see the problems this creates for the young ,the elderly and in general every person who has to adapt their inner workings to appease the wackos who don’t seem to realize we are in the 21st century and no longer rely on candles to light our way,it saves no money but it does increase our health costs, and increases accidents following this foolish archaic ritual.

Great video, Menzoid! Love all the effects. Was wondering when you’d join Rebel Media…it’s about time!!! (Ezra, please make sure he doesn’t leave!)

Nice to hear from David Menzies. I like his perspective!
commented 2015-03-30 15:24:31 -0400
I wish I had the ability to put such vital issues into such simple and elegant perspectives as the Menzoid.
All I came up with is declaring I’d turn all my lights on for the hour…

AL Gore celebrated earth hour by dimming the cabin lights in his Gulfstream Corporate jet.

I live earth “hour” all year round…and still our bungalow’s hydro bill is considered equivalent to a small business…REAL Human achievement is getting monster paycheques in public sector jobs and adding 13,000 to the Ontario sunshine list…

“Overall, the list — which includes doctors, nurses, teachers, police and firefighters in addition to civil servants — increased about 11 per cent last year to 97,796 names. That’s an 82 per cent increase from 2008, when there were 53,774 names on the list”…

…will “human achievement” place ALL public sector workers on the list eventually?

However, the government said the average salary on the list was $127,433 last year — a slight decline from the year before (aaaawwww) — and the number of civil servants on the list grew by less than one per cent in 2013 to 11,349…."

…why does it have to keep growing at 1%/year? Is that human achievement too?

And pray tell what does Ontario Power CEO actually DO for his $1.71 million/year pay cheque…lets have an in depth report to explain this please! Didn’t he take over for someone else? Didn’t they have the job mapped out before him? He didn’t actually set up the daily fare…so what has he done that is so unique?…he sure hasn’t reduced costs or improved efficiency (every MONTH our hydro bill keeps going UP)…and when will the debt be cleared up…he can’t even do THAT! …and how/when can we calculate his SEVERANCE PAY and get this ridiculous charade back on track? With pay cheques like these how can anyone expect the Debt to go away…Our government ‘leaders’ spend like drunken sailors and Ontarians actually chose them over the party that would have brought the debt under control…I’m leaving Ontario…this is just a place for crazy people.

I do this every night. You know. When I go to bed to sleep. I did laundry during this ridiculous hour of ignorance.

Miss the Menziod Mornings. Idiot of the day was awesome. Glad to see you on the Rebel.

Menzoid nice to hear from you. I heard you on I believe 590 Radio beating up some Lefty. Very nice!

I think you mean to say “Human Acheivement IS the antithesis of conservation”. We haven’t set it up. Its’ set up on its own. As we have acheived we have consumed, not conserved.
commented 2015-03-29 13:56:51 -0400
I wondered what had happened to Menzoid! :-)
commented 2015-03-29 12:29:58 -0400
The celebration of Earth Hour is so trite. Why don’t those who get off on that crap just turn of their lights forever? No pun intended.
commented 2015-03-29 12:23:49 -0400
Man made “Global Warming” = Bah, HUMBUG! (…in my oh-so-humble opinion)
commented 2015-03-29 12:05:14 -0400
It’s a little sad to see the notion of human achievement set up as the antithesis of conservation. It’s a bit like celebrating the invention of capitalism by spending as much money as you can in a day, or celebrating the invention of gastronomy by gorging till you puke.
commented 2015-03-29 11:22:01 -0400
Great to see so many like-minded commenters speaking their minds. Human achievement MUST be celebrated if only to encourage mankind to continue with his/her ingenuity! We have come a long way, baby! Every light (and more) in our house was on in celebration of man’s progress!
commented 2015-03-29 08:55:40 -0400
No brainer Human Achievement Hour.
Right on Menzoid.
commented 2015-03-29 03:32:46 -0400
I’m with you, Menz. Earth hour is an anti-celebration promoting the biggest hoax of modern times, man-made global warming. Let Al Gore turns his lights out (as if). I won’t be making any changes in my normal routine for this charade.
commented 2015-03-29 02:02:22 -0400
Didn’t even know ,“Earth Hour” was happening until it was over. Neither did any of the neighbours. I’m sure if any of us knew we would have turned on more lights.
commented 2015-03-29 01:46:51 -0400
I celebrate Human Achievement Hour every year. Every hour for that matter.

Earth Hour: a dissent:
“I abhor Earth Hour. Abundant, cheap electricity has been the greatest source of human liberation in the 20th century. Every material social advance in the 20th century depended on the proliferation of inexpensive and reliable electricity.”

Good on all of you! but as it will be on a weekend, I’ll be asleep :)

Lights – ON, inside and out
Fans – ON
Dryer – ON
Oven – ON (stove is gas or it would be on too)
We’ve come a long way and we need to CELEBRATE that, not deny it!
commented 2015-03-28 22:52:57 -0400
Come on people…overload those generating stations…turn every single light on, and more! We have to turn people’s attitudes around…embrace electricity! Embrace progress! (and no, I didn’t say embrace progressives) Celebrate technology and show what mankind has done, does and will do! Earth Hour? The naive shall NOT inherit the earth.
commented 2015-03-28 22:51:11 -0400
Phone, internet, toilet paper, and fire? Now this was very small example…but wasn’t it the wheel, or even harnessing electricity be top on the list.
commented 2015-03-28 22:29:49 -0400
All my lights are on! Earth hour can kiss my a**!
commented 2015-03-28 22:19:49 -0400
Most people observe earth hour because its trendy and they think they are “saving the planet” and doing something for "global warming or since that doesn’t seem to be happening its called "climate change " now.
Record cold temps, breaking 1976 records, there was a scientist back in 76 who said we were heading for another ice age when cold records were broken then, .
Now he says the opposite, he says the planet is warming now, not cooling.
I sure would like some of that warming this winter,i am sick and tired of the freezing temps they just seem to drag on and on.
No i didn’t observe Earth Hour. i agree with David.
Hydro gives us hints how to conserve power, water utilities tell us how to conserve water, so we do and what do they say, "oh our revenues have dropped " so they keep increasing it ,the more we conserve the more they charge,so we wind up paying more for less

Excellent commentary David. Certainly it is the God given spirit of human achievement, including scientific and technological progress which are the only things which are worth honoring today. Earth Day, a.k.a. the Joy of Cave Dwelling a.k.a. the glorification of primitivism is an assault on human dignity. I hope your function goes well today.
commented 2015-03-28 22:04:02 -0400
David, I’m with you. I’m switching everything on. Earth hour is for bringing attention to and supporting climate change. The only thing man made about climate change is the bull propaganda that it is caused by human achievement. Earth hour means nothing more and nothing less. I choose to celebrate human achievement!

Time to fire up the chainsaw and murder a tree in my backyard. Then cremate the remains in the pit. After all that is left is coals I’ll place a grill over the remains and carefully put some bambi steaks over the coals. By this time the sun will have set so with the flip of a switch there shall be floodlites illuminating my backyard thereby inviting my neighbours over to my cave for coffee and /or cold drinks.
The cave dwellers who exist in places known as cities can freeze in the dark.
