Flagging comment from Nicole Beaudoin
With regard to the free speech supposedly allowed in Speakers’ Corners, the first such corner, created in London, England, is dismantling the idea of free speech, based on “political correctness”. Last year, or was it the year before, a man read the words from one of Sir Winston Churchill’s speeches written decades earlier, about the dangers of radical muslimism. The man was simply reading words from a speech that is public domain. In no way did Sir Winston’s words incite hatred of the law-abiding Muslim, nor did those of the man reading them. Someone, not sure if it was a member of the police or the general public, gentile, agnostic or atheist, or Jewish, or Muslim, but “Someone” was offended by the words of the freedom-loving statesman of decades earlier, and had the orator in the “freedom of speech” Speaker’s Corner shut down, and charged for inciting hatred against… the almost-majority of England, or at the very least the most outspoken “religious” sector of England, and probably the world. More power to you Reverend Lynn, Sonya, Ezra, and all we contributors to the cause of freedom of speech and freedom of thought.
