From “True North Strong and Free” to “Wimp Nation” — thanks to “helicopter parents” like THIS dad

Has Canada become a nation of wimps? I hate to even ask but you’ll understand after you hear what happened to a school bus driver after he allowed three of his charges to get off the bus 300 metres before reaching their babysitter’s house.

The kids ages 6, 8 and 10 walked the distance of two CFL football fields after the six year old said he wanted to get off early to “stretch his legs”. Initially, the driver said no but the kids eventually convinced him.

Nothing happened during this 300 metre incredible journey to the babysitter’s house, but dad had a conniption fit and demanded retribution for the horrible things that could have happened.

Watch as I tell the tale including what happened to the bus driver with a spotless record.

Welcome to 2016, where children are increasingly looked upon as precious hothouse flowers that must be shielded from the indignities of life. We can’t risk hurting their self-esteem.

We ban tag, refuse to keep score and make sure everyone gets a “participant” trophy regardless of performance. And now a 300-metre walk is cruel and unusual punishment?

How sad that we’ve devolved from True North Strong and Free to Wimp Nation, thanks in part to paranoid helicopter parents who entomb their children in suffocating bubble-wrap.

I live in Guelph Ontario. On one particular day, a 9-year-old girl was violently ill at the bus stop just as the bus approached. The driver told the girl she should go home as the girl confirmed her mother was there. The mother freaked and the media painted the bus driver as the culprit for not abandoning the rest of the children to walk the girl to her home. The mother, who was too lazy to walk her daughter to the bus-stop thought her daughter should have received special treatment. I am sick of these LAP’s (lazy ass parents) who bring children into this world and expect all others to assume their responsibility of raising them. In this recent case, the father, also a LAP, should have met the kids at the bus stop. His children knowing this, would have got off at the proper stop. Why is it LAP’s think the world was created for their own benefit? When it was my turn to raise a child, many sacrifices were made to give the child the most precious of gifts which is my time, experience, and help them to understand the world. The result is a child who excels at school and has a future, as long as I can keep him on the right wing path. LAP’s should try it, the results are better than a lottery win.

I’m surprised this idiot father was able to remove his own bubble wrap placed there by the failed school system from two decades ago to even comment on this. His six year old showed more moxie than he. It’s no wonder all these little snowflakes need safe spaces. They actually should have safe spaces from their socially retarded parents.

CANADIAN MONGREL said “Today’s parents, helicopter parents, are just part time parents wanting as little interaction with their kids as possible.”
Yea! IF they actually had anything to do with their kids they wouldn’t need to make such big to do about it. Another form of virtue signaling to make up for inadequacies, overcompensation and me thinks thou dost protest too much displays.

I like scantily clad women in bikinis.

Get a life!

These kids won’t know how to do a damn thing when they grow up if parents don’t let them get dirty, scraped up, learn how to deal with bullies on their own, the list goes on.
It is a big disservice to this generation and we will all suffer from it. Having said that I guess the bus driver didn’t fulfil his responsibility, letting the kids out before their stop, but the father’s need to go to the media was pathetic.

My wife made a good comment about this.
The bus driver was actually breaking the contract between the school broad and the parent. The bus driver is paid to pick up and drop off the children from their desired location. By letting them off the bus before they arrived at their desired location, all contracts have been broken.

As for the walking, I agree with you it is only 300 meters. I believe children should be outside everyday no matter the temperature.

The part that really puzzles me, is the need to run to the press. I guess what I’m saying is that, if I had a problem with where the bus driver dropped my kids off, I’d be talking to the bus driver. I wouldn’t be running to the Toronto Sun or any other place.

In any event, what else can you expect from this area except bed-wetters and cry babies?

The real danger to children is in the classroom. Not a week goes by when one can read about another sexual assault by a teacher on a student!! When will the government hold an inquiry into this ongoing travesty to our children???

I know for a fact that Alberta Schools are making moves to assign a school district to every child at birth. I witnessed a local school district writing up the motion.
Will not need to worry about helicoptering your kids soon. The state will do it for you.
