Fundraiser with electoral benefits for Calgary Mayor raises ethical questions

Holly NicholasRebel Commentator

A fundraiser to raise the capital to pay off Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s $300K legal bill resulting from a defamation suit filed against him in 2013 is looking more and more like a veiled election campaign

Donors can contribute up to $10,000 and will receive a charitable tax receipt.

So far, over $200,000 has been raised.

Watch as I explain how Mayor Nenshi racked up the fees defending himself in a lawsuit filed by businessman and homebuilder Cal Wenzel after Nenshi made some careless comments about him.

The suit was settled out of court in 2015, but the bill remains. Council voted that the City should pay the bill, but that the Mayor should eventually pay it back, hence, the fundraiser put on by Nenshi’s friends.

Did I mention that those who donate will get a charitable tax receipt?

Not only will people get a tax break, but he gets his lawsuit paid off and a neatly packed up campaign list to target his loyalists for the upcoming municipal election this year.

No other candidate gets these perks.

Any way you look at this, it’s a win-win for Nenshi and his pals, but it looks terrible.

The Mayor of Calgary gets to play by his own special set of rules.

The only question is, what are his friends expecting in return?

lol this so called "country’ is becoming more corrupt and vile by the day. I am so disgusted by what is happening to the country my forefathers built and fought for. It would appear there is no conscience among those whom we vote, pay and trust to govern, serve and protect us as they are more concerned with serving themselves. Laws mean absolutely nothing to them as we have seen with trudeau. They are merely there to take all which they can from we the taxpayers for as long as possible then they will move on to let someone else clean up only the fact of the matter is, no one is going to clean it up as we fall deeper and deeper into third world, corrupt, dictatorial, governing! A couple of hundred years and millions of people to build this once strong, envied, respected, wealthy, modern, safe, peaceful , sovereign country but only a few decades of liberalism, multiculturalism, political correctness and self serving treasonous politicians to completely destroy it all! Trudeau is finishing the job off and it only took him 16 months!!! Too bad Canadians had no pride, patriotism, honour, or love of country and self!

Nenshi is one big bloated walking ethics violation. I would have thought tough times would have finished this "vibrant’ poser off.

Having lived away for 42 years from the town where I was born, raised and educated, I cannot comment on the current politics. Yet I will always be a Stamps and Flames fan.

However, I will mention that Nenshi is the only Alberta left wing politician who has spoken against the potential NEB decision.
