Gad Saad: Free speech battle is lost if “only a few courageous people” join the fight

Rebel Staff

At the Manning Networking Conference, I talked to Professor Gad Saad about the state of free speech in the West, particularly on college campuses.

Dr. Saad says that while he appreciates the messages of support he receives when he publicly challenges political correctness and censorship, we really need more ordinary people to spread the risk around and speak out themselves.

Yvette and Tanya, the onus isn’t on ‘some person to get the ball rolling’ The onus is on each and everyone of us. Gathering with people of like mind on a local level. Face to face appointments if possible with parents associations, school boards, mayors, MP’s . Get a movement going on a local level. Speak out and get over being offended when you are insulted. The only way to make your point of view more popular is to make it more popular. Who do you know who feels the same way you do, who do they know? Reach out to your government, repeatedly, question after question, firm request after firm request. As I type this I am also talking to myself.

About m-103, we need a counter motion, any ideas? Any superlative MP’s who would take it to Ottawa?
We should be proactive like they are. To start, we need to insure that Sharia law is never accepted on any level in Canada, including family law. Zero accommodation, or we will end up like the UK where they have around 100 recognised and sanctioned Sharia courts. Didn’t they have a law that prohibited foreign law to parallel British law? How does this stuff happen? Maybe we need a motion to do some investigation and reporting on Sharia law with the potential of a full fledged bill being passed, banning it outright as many States have done in the U.S.
Same for hate speech in Mosques. How about a motion to ‘gather information,’ and ‘report’ on it’s presence in Mosques across our country, with the potential of passing a bill which prohibits death threats, which at this time seem to enjoy protection from our law of the land, hiding behind our freedom of religious expression laws. We have laws prohibiting incitement to violence, but if it is in the context of Islamic religious teachings , it gets a pass. Why is that? It needs to be changed.

Speaking of ‘speaking out at a local level’, Sondra Solomon taking her message to the Peel school board meetings, and to the mayor of Mississauga is what is needed. On a regular basis, continually and relentlessly. We could learn something from pushy Muslims in this regard. We are too easily defeated. If there are enough small groups all over the country it will eventually start to look like a national movement to those who hold the power.

Check out this mayor in Texas, talk about some push back.

In fact, I would suggest writing to the police chiefs, because the bottom line is, they’re the one’s with the force. If they refuse to do the bidding of the politicians, the politicians become impotent. Better still, they police should be arresting the politicians. They politicians are not their boss, the Criminal Code is their boss. Remind them of it. Police Chiefs can be charged too! Let them know!

Great interview. Really like this gentleman, and I hope everyone here takes his suggestions to write to politicians to heart. I do it all the time, and will be getting much more involved in the near future.

Rob. No way anyone from law enforcement is going to charge those politicians. It has to be a private citizen that does it, and hopefully, with the backing of lots and lots of ppl, signing petitions, demonstrating etc.

At Yvette Mozol: We need a Political Leader that will hear our voices and listen to our voices and make our voices heard! It’s the only legal way. I’m still waiting for a real Legal/Law Enforcement person to charge Trudeau, Wynne/McGuinty and Notley for crimes they may have committed. (surely what they are doing has to be illegal?)

Thank you Sally & Glenn for the kind words & encouragement.
Yvette is right, someone has got to get this ball rolling… I recently watched a video of a courageous patriot on the streets of Freddy with a megaphone speaking about the threat of Islam. Does anyone know who he is? Now Thats a guy you want team up with.

Dr. Saad is right, venting, complaining, etc here on this website might be good to keep your BP down, but you have to stand up for the cause with action such as rallies, emails to your MP. We need volunteers to organize & the rest of us to heed the cause. Social media seems to be the way to go & if you build it, they will come & if you organize it they will also come.
Tanya & Lisa, very well said, we are way too complacent here, we whine & scream at the TV, but not much else leaving it to the next guy. Maybe that’s because in spite of hating PC, we might just have a bit of it in our bones. I think that if someone can start it off, it would not take long to get the word out, synchronize & people would
rise up. There are many on this site who could start this ball rolling.

Good to know Glenn.

@tanya Graves…If I have not been arrested over the things I have said then you have much more scope than what you might think. The lefties live in a permanent state of being offended…it’s like it’s their job.

Don’t appologise, don’t back down, people do eventually get it when you speak the truth with confidence.

At the speech laws…?
That’s not a problem… Just remain silent while removing the problem.!!

Tanya, very brave comments! Many thanks to your husband for fighting for our country.

Dear fellow Rebels
I have been reading this site from its beginning & a supporter of Sun news before that. I shy away from making comments but enjoy reading all of yours.
Thank you Allan Peterson & Liza Rosie for the inspiration this morning to be silent no more!
I live in Fredericton & learned of our mayors plans this week to turn us into a sanctuary city. My family has 2 options, raise our voices in opposition or sell our assets & move to the U.S.
The time to stand in defence of our freedoms is now & if hard core patriots won’t do it, nobody will.
This week I was called a Brownshirt in Hebrew class no less,
for my support of President Trump by a self described lapsed catholic. My Jewish teacher was a bit stunned by the exchange. I was so offended by his comment when it should come as no surprise. This is where we are at, if you are a conservative then your a nazi…so sick of it!
We will take part in marches against M-103, mass immigration & sanctuary cities in our area if it can be organized….Allan’s right, they can’t throw us all in jail.
My husband is a retired veteran, & his patriotic heart is breaking over what the Liberal government is doing to the freedoms he thought he fought to defend!

@dan Mancuso…I hear you brother. The best way to avoid having Madam Defarge make knots in her knitting over everything you say is to just say it so loud and right in their face that all they want to do is ignore you.

Use your rights or lose your rights!

My various political ‘representatives’, in our Representative Parliamentary Democracy that is Canada, likely reaction to my regular interaction and expression of participatory democracy is probably something like, ‘Oh no, not Mancuso again…’, the MSM just goes, Mancuso, click.
But we must all endeavor to persevere…

OK, so we all disparage each other for not taking action. Sa I am suggesting some gatherings across the country to say what we think about islam as based on the koran itself and the teachings and prayers as seen on video. Do you think they will charge 1000 people at a time in several cities all at once? Who’s up for it? That will make the news, I guarantee it.

Jamie is right , too many wimps , and of course when it is too late they will lay the blame on others for not doing more.
commented 2017-02-25 16:59:53 -0500
All very good, but regular people don’t take this risk because regular people don’t believe for a second that ‘conservative’ politicians OR judges have their back when they speak out, especially against anything PC. Take Patrick Brown for example. Look at the war the Republican establishment has against Trump. It’s sounds nice, but when the French government threatens 2 years ail and a 30,000 euro fine for speaking against abortion, well there you have it. Really the progressives figured out that you don’t need gulags and concentration camps to stifle free speech, just use exorbitant fines (funny how the judges never have a problem with these or find them at all unjust) to take away a person’s house and savings and finish with a hammer blow of public shaming and voila, he’s pushing a shopping cart and sleeping on the side walk. No problem.

Mr. Saad is a great defender of free speech , I support what he does ,

It’s a problem Jamie, I hope that can change and more Canadians engage. I just can’t see Canadians going down without a fight. I’m not surprised that many new Canadians like Gad Saad, are leading the charge. They know first hand what it’s like to live without freedom. We are a spoiled and complacent bunch and it makes us easy pickings for totalitarian bullies. It is way past time for more Canadians to speak out in their daily life, and encourage others to get involved. Time to grow a few more layers of skin and let the insults roll off. To take it only empowers those who would take our liberty if we let them.
Last spring when I was shooing the census lady away, I reminded her that we still lived in a free country. I don’t know if I’ll be able to say that anymore. I am starting to have my doubts.

“…we really need more ordinary people to spread the risk around and speak out themselves.”

Ain’t gonna happen, Ezra. Not n Canada. It’s not the Canadian Way. When it comes to fighting for rights, you’re pretty well on your own, Bud!

The vast majority of Canadians lie down in the long grass hoping that the sharp eyes (and sharper talons and bills) will dig somebody else out. Maybe some anonymous huffing and puffing on blogs and forums, but no real standing up and speaking out.

We (Ontario’s Landowner Association) tried every tactic known to get rural people to stand up en masse when they were losing land-use and land value because of McGuinty’s environmental regulations. 99.9 percent of property owners didn’t have the heart or guts to put up a fight to save their biggest investment.

It’s no different in any other part of Canada. Down-town Edmonton should be plugged up tighter than a spinster on cheese because of what the NDP are doing to the province, but all we get is tapping on keyboards and pissing and moaning in the pubs and coffee shops.
