Generation Trudeau: Millennials favour de-Trumping of Toronto's Trump Tower

David MenziesMission Specialist

A few days ago, cranes moved in and removed the giant red letters from Trump Tower in Toronto.

LANGUAGE WARNING:

The new owner of the hotel made a deal that will see the U.S. President’s name removed from the property but will Torontonians miss seeing the Trump surname gracing their skyline?

Watch as I ask members of Generation Trudeau (after dark) what they think about that.

I’m no longer interested in visiting Toronto, gets in the way of having a good time.

So glad Toronto will be one of the early sharia patrol areas, and will have some of the first no go zones, and of course Jimmy will deny it the whole way.

Liza Rosie,

LOL!

Because there are much better hotels in Toronto than the Trump Hotel and if people are going to spend that kind of money, you can do much better.

Do you know where the hotel is? In Yorkville. Have you heard of Yorkville – it’s like Canada’s version of 5th Avenue In New York with High-End Fashion and Boutiques and surrounded by incredible hotels and restaurants. There was never a reason to stay at Trump Tower.

Peter Netterville,

What Canadian media sources do you trust besides The Rebel – that isn’t just spoon feeding you the things you want to hear?

I realize this is going to blow your mind, but the MSM does get it right much of the time. They are journalists and reporters after all. The story was good enough for the Toronto Sun as well to publish and as you know – The Rebel loves the Toronto Sun and the people who work there.

Besides how is any occupation deficit a reflection on Trump! It is clearly a top class hotel. Maybe too top class for Toronto? Trump Tower Vancouver doesn’t seem to suffer any occupancy deficit.

There is an abundance of Star articles on this and they all try to dirty Trumps name . It is the Stars modus operandi to spit on anything to do with Trump. They have no real news only spin to try to make him look bad. It’s what they do.

Two realtors opinions on pros and cons of the hotel’s success or lack thereof:

“New name or not, Fleming said it won’t change his mind about the hotel-condo model.

“I don’t like the commercial taxes, I don’t like the higher maintenance fees, I don’t like the potential for the hotel to make decisions that affect the condo. I think it’s incredibly risky and I would never put a buyer into a hotel condo, let alone this one in particular,” he said.

“Chiappetta takes a different view. He sees the amenities offered by the hotel condo model, including things like 24-hour concierge service, as an asset.”

Look at this place, looks mighty fine to me.

Such lame claims Andrew. and the investors who claimed they were told to expect better returns? Think about the stupidity of that statement. If it was such a disaster why were JCF Capitol happy to buy Trump out?

“Collectively, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Eric Danziger and their team have been exceptional partners and we hope to have the pleasure of working with the Trump Organization again in the future,” said Jay Wolf, the president of JCF Capital, in a statement.

Trump Hotels CEO Eric Danziger echoed his comments, saying they “look forward to exploring other opportunities with JCF in the near future.”

The release did not explain why JCF, a joint venture between Juniper Capital Partners and Cowie Capital Partners, decided to buy-out the Trump Hotels management contract. JCF bought the building, which includes 211 hotel units, 74 condos and most of the commercial, retail and amenity space, in March for $298 million.

If investors are disappointed with their return it is no ones fault.

“Mitchell Wine, a Toronto lawyer with Levine Sherkin Boussidan, has started a class action law suit against Talon, the hotel condo’s developer. The class action suit, which could include between 100 and 150 people, is seeking the return of deposits paid by people who did not close their transactions to become owners.”

So what? who’s fault is that? Investors are always taking a risk and if they are risk adverse and too lazy to do their own risk assessment, then too bad. Who cares?

I don’t trust anything from the Toronto Red Star, and any website that has to put “reality” into its’ URL tends to peddle non-reality. "

Ah, so you’re shooting the messenger. Nice. You can go ahead and find some other source that will confirm it.

You’ve confused “reality” with “realty”, as in realtor/real estate … a field which has obvious interest in the issues with the Trump Tower’s management. And, again, the message should be easily refutable if incorrect, without lazy messenger-shooting.

Peter, perhaps you should actually do a quick fact-check to confirm that I’m actually wrong before making such proclamations.

Here’s one example from around the time the problems became known (late 2012), although there were legal issues even before then.

https://www.thestar.com/business/2012/11/19/trump_tower_developer_suing_7_disgruntled_investors_to_close_deals_they_now_regret.html

This exact issue is what lead to the legal woes, in which the Trump tower became a distressed asset that the management became desperate to unload.

This is a blog, but it sums up the lawsuit.

Andrew said, "Nobody stayed at Trump Tower, and that’s one of the reasons they got sued for ripping off investors, who were promised much higher occupancy rates than were actually delivered. "

Please post a link to where you get this information. Oh right I forgot, you just make up shit and pretend it is fact.

Shameful the way the Hotel’s fold like a deck of cards. No backbone to stand up to these mouthy freaks. They have all jumped on the same bandwagon, using ‘racism’ as their main argument, when in fact it has zero to do with Trump. They are no info idiots to think Trump is a racist and it is mass brainwashing. Damn stupid kids, couldn’t think for themselves if their lives depended on it. We have brought up a generation of blithering weak minded idiots!
News flash, SJW’s don’t generally stay at Trump Tower. I wonder how many people who have stayed there have asked management why they caved? I would bet quite a few. It’s stupid. "

Nobody stayed at Trump Tower, and that’s one of the reasons they got sued for ripping off investors, who were promised much higher occupancy rates than were actually delivered.

The lawsuit which ultimately lead to withdrawing from the Trump licensing brand, dates back to 2012. The management felt they were better off without the pricey licensing agreement, which yielded no benefits, and may have hurt them after the election.

Brainwashing? No. Don’t overinterpret the symbolism, but the upset rightists around here are just as misinformed as those interviewed here, who most likely have no idea of the background to the case (nor should they be expected to, especially if you’re just grabbing random passers-by for an interview and cherry-picking the worst responses)

Liza Rosie,

It has nothing to do with SJW. You don’t live in Toronto – I do and everyone here is embarrassed by the Trump name on the hotel. I realize everyone in Alberta wants to suck on his balls, but we live in the real world.
