German police refused to take a call seriously and as a result allowed a Ghanaian refugee to rape a woman.
According to The Daily Mail, the officer who took the call did not believe the desperate man on the other end of the line. “You are not messing with me I hope,” the officer said.
The boyfriend had been threatened with a machete by the refugee who entered the tent he shared with his girlfriend at a campsite near Bonn.
According to the report, the attacker dragged the girl a few yards into a meadow at the Siegaue Nature Reserve and raped her.
When the boyfriend called police, a female officer responded with “Hmm” and then asked “Where exactly is this rape happening?”
The police never arrived and the man was forced to watch his girlfriend get raped. After the attack he picked his girlfriend up and began walking along a main road for help. He even called the police a second time, but to no avail.
Frank Piontek, spokesman for the Bonn Police admitted the “incoming official in the control centre, after our findings, did not initially correctly categorize the circumstances of the first call and reacted inappropriately in her language.”
A photofit picture and DNA testing eventually led to the arrest of the attacker. A CD player stolen from the tent was also found at the refugee center where the 31-year-old was staying. When police moved in to arrest him, he tried to flee, even throwing a stolen backpack at an officer.
