General Motors took a taxpayer bail-out — but now it’s laying off 2,800 workers in Oshawa.

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

There has been a General Motors plant in Oshawa for exactly a century — 1918. At its height, it employed 40,000 people in that city — that's a greater proportion than Calgarians who work in the oil patch.

Let me read from the Wall Street Journal, because these days, if you want honest reporting about something in Canada, you can’t really trust Canadian media — because they’re all on the payroll of Trudeau, or are about to be.

General Motors Expected to Shut Down Operations in Oshawa, Ontario

Let me read to you a line that I haven’t seen in the CBC, or CTV, or any other Canadian media outlet:

Canada’s auto industry, which is concentrated in southern Ontario, has shrunk over the past decade, as more factories moved to the southern U.S. and Mexico where labor costs are cheaper. Canadian policy makers had hoped the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement—reached in late September with provisions requiring more work be done by higher-wage workers—would help the domestic industry. Today, Canada is among the most expensive countries in the world to build cars and the highest-cost market for car assembly in the North American free trade zone.

Exactly.

And do you think that’s going to get better or worse when Justin Trudeau’s national carbon tax kicks in fully?

GM isn't the only company in the news:

Bombardier said about 3,000 jobs will be cut in Canada, with the majority of those in Bombardier’s home province of Quebec and 500 in Ontario.

Like Bombardier, GM was the recipient of tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer largesse — and in fairness, Stephen Harper was part of that decision a decade ago, as part of the massive auto bail-out, done in conjunction with Barack Obama, and the province of Ontario.

And much of that bailout money has just quietly been written off.

Just months ago, we forgave GM a massive debt — and then they shut down their Oshawa plant.

Maybe there’s no way to have kept them here; but when the feds gave $10 billion to the auto industry a decade ago, and Ontario taxpayers gave billions more, surely there was a quid pro quo?

And if it was just to squeeze another decade out of a factory — well, that’ more than a billion dollars a year. For a factory with 2,800 people in it. You could have just cut every worker a million dollar cheque and have been ahead of the game.

So here's my best advice for these 2,800 hurting families:

Just read the CBC or the Toronto Star or the Globe and Mail. Their journalists will tell you that it’s not that bad after all — in fact, it’s pretty great, in terms of carbon emissions.

You’ll be just fine — that’s what the Unifor journalists say, anyways.

Churchill’s eloquence versus Nicky’s potty mouthed, “Shut the fuck up!”

“We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I will say: It is to wage war, by sea, land, and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be.”

Winston Churchill swore all the time. What are you talking about? LOL.
____________________________________________________________________________
No doubt he swore. But not all the time. And not as part of his public discourse. He was a master of the turn of phrase and wit in the use the English language and he was so eloquent he didn’t have to resort to being a garbage mouth to get his point across. You, however, have no other means of doing so because you lack any expertise or facility with the language. No doubt you can find some lefty link to support your verbal diarrhoea. But Churchill you ain’t. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

Nicky boy, you acuse Faith, who is a white survivalist with being a racist white supremacist, yet you have never provided an ounce of proof of her saying anything of the sort. As usual, thanks for opening your mouth once again and removing all doubt as to how pathetic a liar you are.

LMAO!

You live in a delusional bubble.

Common Sense,

This coming from the guy named Common Sense, but completely lacks that with every post you make.

What specifically do you think I am wrong about and I will be more than happy to clear it up for you like I have about Faith Goldy and her being a racist white supremacist, which again – Ezra and I are on the same page on.

Bernier is VERY LOUDLY speaking against what’s being planned by Trudeau’s gang of Economic Saboteurs.
Glad politics are alive and sort of well up there in the Great White North!

Hey Ezra! Great show per usual. I agree with you about the Rebel.Media being the only REAL journalists NOT taking Trudeau’s Money ahead of next years Elections.
The Rebel IS the only unbiased news source available in Canada for Canadians.

Nick, shut the fuck up, because according to you, you need to be told because you don’t know what you are talking about. But thanks once again for opening your mouth and removing all doubt on that.

Al Peterson,

I didn’t make mention of it, because it wasn’t relevant to my point. There was nothing deceitful about it, but you tried to negate my point and was proven wrong. As usual.

Do we have to go over this again:

Winston Churchill swore all the time. What are you talking about? LOL.

Sometimes people need to be told to shut the fuck up, because they don’t know what they are talking about. That’s you. All the time.

I also never made any mention that they weren’t focusing on SUV’s and trucks…
______________________________________________________________________________
But you didn’t mention that they were. A sad attempt at deceit that got caught so then you go full nuke potty mouth. Such a class act and insightful debater. Such cogent arguments such as ,“Fuck You” and “Shut the Fuck Up”. Yup. You rate right up there with the greats like Winston Churchill and Abe Lincoln. The world stands in awe of your succinct reasoning and oratorical prowess.

Al, the entertaining value, if it exists, is when Nicky (and all his aliases) opens his mouth and removes all doubt as to his insanity. There’s a twitter quote on the right about President Trump succeeding in having the insane identify themselves…
commented 2018-11-28 00:49:21 -0500
I guess to Nicky, “…and in response to market-related volume declines in cars, future products will be allocated to fewer plants next year”, means they are focusing on building more cars.

The great part is that when the Nickster starts cursing you out you know you’ve hit nerve and you’re right. The quote I provided was directly from General Motors as provided by Mr-Babies-Are-Parasites. About time for another name change eh, Nicky-poo?

NDP SUCKS:-“Haven’t the Max bots been screeching for several months that Scheer was defending and supporting supply management at the expense of the auto sector? Where are all these people now? Where is Max with his golden magic wand? Never a word out of these people that Trudeau was responsible for NAFTA. What say you now Max bots?”… I gather “NDP Sucks” that your brain gets plugged into and out of reality several times a day?? I, for one, will be attending yet another meeting of the PPC here on south Vancouver Island this coming Saturday… Any and all of those issues have been cited and talked about at our previous two riding meetings… As for NAFTA, a quick check of my Rebel postings in the past year indicate that I have commented on NAFTA at least two dozen times or so, if not more?….
commented 2018-11-27 23:34:27 -0500
Nicky, you are the one who needs to shut the fuck up. You cite Vox, which also cites WaPo and CNN, all are a joke, like you, and lack credibility, like you. The electric vehicles are a joke, not realistic, certainly don’t work well, especially in less than ideal climes, they are extremely expensive, and have proven again and again to be proven failed business models. So, did you buy shares in Tesla? Their’s is a perfect example. Even Obama didn’t follow through with his promise to buy electric. The only ones, other than you, that are espousing these failures are the virtue signalling manufacturers, and the only others cited in the article are unions; imagine the shock at their positions, and loss of dues to boot. So, Nicky, shut the fuck up and go back to the CBC, where not even they buy electric.
commented 2018-11-27 22:47:02 -0500
Al Peterson,

As usual, you don’t know what you are talking about. I also never made any mention that they weren’t focusing on SUV’s and trucks, but the focus is ALSO on electric and self driving VEHICALS, which includes cars as I DID say.

You really need to the shut the fuck up, think first, do some research outside of The Rebel and then maybe respond when you are actually informed.

General Motors is cutting 14,000 jobs and focusing on self-driving and electric vehicles

“Resources allocated to electric and autonomous vehicle programs will double in the next two years.”

Little nicky, you and all knowing andrew should get a room and do some tea bagging.
Mike, I am pretty sure these two are one, playing the old dual agreeing alias game that Gordo Steele played all the time. The only one ever to agree with him was his own alias. So we have Andrew the fake PhD Stephenson and Nicky agreeing with and supporting eachother, on absolutely ridiculous stances, which is the only way he could ever get someone to agree to his insanity. Par for the course when you are that mentally challenged.
commented 2018-11-27 20:18:41 -0500
Nicky, electric vehicle sales tanked, they continue to tank, they are rediculously priced, there is no viable market for them, the battery solutions are a complete waste, create a larger footprint than what the vehicle is supposed to eliminate, they are not a good business decision unless your soul desire is to virtue signal; they are useless. Let me guess, you bought shares in Tesla.

NDP sucks, IF that all actually happens I will vote for Scheer. But up to now he has been pretty acquiescent to the Liberal agenda. Doesn’t sound much like of an agenda for isalm- our biggest threat.
commented 2018-11-27 19:57:30 -0500
Nicholas here is the reality:

Mr-Babies-Are_parasites, here is what the link you posted says. GM is focusing on SUVs and trucks. Not cars.

“Increasing capacity utilization – in the past four years, GM has refocused capital and resources to support the growth of its crossovers, SUVs and trucks, adding shifts and investing $6.6 billion in U.S. plants that have created or maintained 17,600 jobs. With changing customer preferences in the U.S. and in response to market-related volume declines in cars, future products will be allocated to fewer plants next year.”

Selective reading, I guess. Why do you want to believe and promulgate lies?

Did anyone else notice how fast Doug Ford capitulated on this issue? After invoking the notwithstanding clause and threatening anyone who doesn’t toe the line when GM pulls out he just smiles and says thank you. “Nothing we can do”. Doug Ford is as useless as he is repulsive.

- So the point of bailouts is to ……….? Maybe it’s time to rethink the whole bailout thing. Unifor needs to decide rather they want to play politics or be a union – the politics thing has been a disaster. From Butts you see the insanity of the green movement. They want to replace fossil fuels with wind & solar & hope they somehow become viable energy sources at some point – they want to replace our fossil fuel economy with nothing & hope something better or even different comes along.

- Canadians keep electing anti-business politicians. Now we’re paying the price for that. It’s the sort of thing that happens when we let our TVs do our thinking for us.

Andrew Stephenson,

Absolutely right. GM is moving more in the direction of electric cars and self driving cars and that plant was not able to go in that direction. It would cost a fortune to renovate the plant and issue with the carbon tax made it even worse. I guess Ontario isn’t open for business after all Dougie.

Yeah, no, Ezra, the idea of rewarding a traitor and criminal – especially one as treacherous and transparent as Jihadi-Justin-Groper, and the LPC Clown Show, with a state sanctioned hemp rope, is no joke!
We used to hang traitors in this country…until Pee-air, alleged sire of Justine, got rid of it in 1976, when he set Canada on the road to destruction during his tenure!
Red Chinese, Bolshevik, NAZI, Fascist, NDP or Liberal…all the same shade of lefty.
Justin and his Globalists cronies have stepped up the pace and intensity of their attacks against Canada recently – and we’re losing…
That’s no joke!

For all you Max bots who are quiet and wiping egg off your face today here are some FACTS to deal with instead of your delusional bullshit stories about Scheer you have been spewing for months.

To date Scheer has released the following policies:

-vehemently opposed to Trudeau’s carbon tax – will immediately scrap the carbon tax – supports Canadian carbon-capture or clean-coal technology but will allow provinces to come up with their own plans

-will repeal Trudeau’s Bill C-69 to overhaul energy project reviews – advises that Trudeau’s bill is the worst thing to happen to the industry since Pierre Trudeau’s national energy program of the 1980s

-will get the East Energy pipeline built which will allow us to move our own oil across Canada : will also build pipelines to get our oil to foreign markets such as India

-will lift the ban on tanker traffic along the B.C. coast

-will clarify the roles of proponents and government in energy projects and enforce the government’s “declaratory” power of the Constitution to force major energy projects to go forward

-will get the extension of the Trans Canada pipeline built after reversing the carbon tax, invoking constitutional powers, banning foreign funding from being used to oppose the project and using federal powers to declare the project as being of a national benefit to Canada

-supports supply management, the system that controls dairy, egg and chicken prices to provide stability for farmers

-will remove HST/GST from home heating bills – will reduce small business taxes – will reduce our federal taxes

-strongly opposed to M-103 and voted against it – will scrap it

-will recommit Canadian fighters to the battle against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant

-voted against Bill C-16, which would expand the Canadian Human Rights Act to protect against discrimination on the basis of gender identity and expression

-will have a $1,000.00 tax credit for home-schooled children and to make up to $4,000.00 of independent school tuition tax-deductible

-will deny funding and research money to universities that don’t allow full freedom of speech where people like Peterson are shouted down

-will introduce a New Parents Act that will offer a tax break on the benefits people receive when they take parental leave after a child is born – it will create a “a federal non-refundable tax credit for any income earned under EI maternity leave or EI parental leave benefits”

-will not reopen the debate on abortion

-will end birthright citizenship for anyone who doesn’t have a Canadian parent or a parent with permanent residency

-will recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the Canadian Embassy to Jerusalem

-will spend at least 2% of Canada’s GDP on national defence

-is entirely opposed to illegal immigration – will renegotiate the Safe Third Country Agreement to cover the entire border – will expedite the removal of failed asylum seekers – in the interim, has been pushing to have the two main illegal entry points being used in Quebec and Manitoba declared by Trudeau as official points of entry

-will reduce the number of refugees we bring into Canada – will pull Canada out of the U.N. Global Compact on Migration

-will repeal and replace Liberal Bill C-71 with a law that actually targets criminals, protects Canadians, and respects farmers and law-abiding firearms owners

-contrary to the stance of the Liberals and the NDP, Scheer’s Conservatives won’t oppose or stand in the way of Legault’s move to bar some employees from wearing religious symbols at work

-as opposed to reintegrating returning terrorists, will have them prosecuted to the full extent of the law – will reinstate Harper’s legislation to deport dual citizens guilty of terrorism

-will stop Statistics Canada from collecting our personal banking and credit information

-will repeal and replace Liberal Bill C-71 with a law that actually targets criminals, protects Canadians, and respects farmers and law-abiding firearms owners – doesn’t support a gun ban but tougher penalties – will end automatic bail for gang members, identify gangs in the criminal code, revoke parole for gang members, toughen sentences for ordering gang crime and create new sentences for violent gang crime

-will have tougher sentences for those who knowingly possess smuggled guns, a lifetime gun ownership ban on any lawful gun owner found to be selling guns to people prohibited from possessing them or to the black market and a lifetime gun ownership ban for anyone convicted of violent crime or gang-related activity – will seize guns from people detained for mental health-related issues and create a special task force to keep guns from being smuggled in from the U.S.

-will create a firearms ombudsman to advocate for gun owners and have the RCMP no longer having the power to reclassify guns
-will balance the budget within two years.
