WARNING: THIS VIDEO CONTAINS GRAPHIC CONTENT. This is the actual video of the decapitation by knife of Canadian hostage, John Ridsdel. It is a difficult thing to see, even though much of it is blurred by a grey translucent square.
The reasons for posting this are two fold:
A CBC documentary about the Abu Sayyef whitewashd the ideological basis for this act of terrorism, to preserve the narrative that Islam is perfectly suitable for Canada, and perhaps even preferable to Christianity.
In fact, they include an interview with possibly the only person in the Philippines who believes that these are just "thugs with guns" and have no ideology at all.
In the video below, the Abu Sayyef terrorists can clearly be seen making the Islamic State salute, and chanting "Allah hu ackbar" ("Our god Allah is greater than your god".)
Therefore, this murder is purely an ideological act, even if a ransom was requested, because kidnapping for ransom was how, historically, jihad has been funded by Muslims.
(In fact, the common English expression "a king's ransom" derives from the 13th century kidnapping for ransom of King Louis IX by Muslims in Egypt, where he was held for a ransom so high, everyone in his kingdom was made to feel it.)
The second reason:
Near the end of the Second World War, American troops had stumbled across Nazi concentration camps. These camps were filled with those left at the end of the process of genocidal extermination by the Nazis of mostly Jews, gypsies, homosexuals and some Catholics.
At the end of World War II, General Eisenhower made a decision to personally visit as many Nazi concentration camps as he could. His reason? He wanted to document the camps and their appalling conditions.
Anticipating a time when Nazi atrocities might be denied, General Eisenhower also ordered the filming and photographing of camps as they were liberated. Members of the U.S. Army Signal Corps recorded approximately 80,000 feet of moving film, together with still photographs.
General Eisenhower wanted to document the camps to make sure there were records to offset what he knew would be denial of these activities in the future.
In that spirit, we must know what religious Muslims do in the name of, and within the scriptural doctrine of, their faith, so that we can make healthy decisions about how to respond today.
And isn't it interesting that the denial of any Islamic connection to these beheadings are taking place even as these events continue? As it was in WWII, these denials are being made by far left wing extremists like those at the CBC.
Once again however, this is, despite the filter over the actual knife and neck, a horrifying video, as are the videos of the Nazi death camps at the end of WWII.
