A newly discovered Facebook glitch will let you know if you've been 'muted' by a friend on Facebook.
'Mute' is a feature on Facebook messenger that prevents the receiver from being alerted to a new message on desktop and mobile devices. While you can still send messages to someone who has you muted, they'll never know unless they check their message history.
The feature is normally used on group chats where there are too many notifications or as an alternative to removing someone as a friend or blocking them.
In order to tell if you're muted by someone, follow these steps:
1) Send someone who you think has you muted a message
2) Wait for them to read the message
3) On desktop, if the time the recipient has 'seen' the message matches the time you sent it, then chances are you've been muted. If not, that person hasn't muted you
4) Check the message on a mobile device. If 'seen' is at a later time than the one shown on desktop, then you've been muted.
So far, we tested this glitch with Android phones and it works. It is unknown if Facebook is aware of the problem and is working on fixing it. Let us know in the comments if this glitch works with other mobile devices.
