When BC NDP MLA David Eby defeated Premier Christy Clark in the 2013 election in the riding of Vancouver Point Grey, it was a bit of a shocker.
It’s unusual for a sitting Premier to lose their own seat, especially while the party increased their majority, except Eby is one of the more charismatic members of the BC NDP with a high profile dating back to his time at the BC Civil Liberties Association.
But like most New Democrats of today, David Eby has an activist past that includes attending an Earth First conference in Scotland.
Earth First is an environmental group that was designated a terrorist organization by the US Army.
Watch as I show you what Eby learned at this conference and his response to me in an attempt to distance himself from that event.
I'll show you why I think Eby has no excuse for attending such a conference put on by Earth First given the litany of violent activism the group participated in during the 1980's and 1990's including a bombing, vandalizing ski resorts, golf courses, and even an attempt to sabotage a motorcycle race in the desert.
David Eby needs to disavow Earth First and the tactics they've used, because as projects get underway in BC, it’s entirely possible some environmentalists will look to these tactics for inspiration.
