This week there’s yet another first world climate change guilt conference as the Climate Summit of the Americas is being held in sunny Guadalajara, Mexico.
Why don’t they ever hold these things in the Canadian Arctic where it’s impossible to ignore the fact that you need to either burn fossil fuels or incinerate a pod of whales just to survive?
The Alberta government never misses a chance to preen on an international stage so Environment and Climate Change Minister Shannon Phillips has a three person entourage in Mexico for the conference: Phillips, her chief of staff and one department official for an estimated cost of $12,000.
There’s another cost in all of this. It’s not one I particularly care about but it is one the NDP think is deadly, dangerous and will end the world as we know it. So I calculated it.
Watch my video to see the amount of carbon emissions created by Phillips’ Mexican climate guilt get-together.
But it’s not all work for Phillips and her three person climate superhero posse. The itinerary for their Guadalajara junket shows their last official event wraps up Friday and they don’t fly back to Calgary until the following Monday. They’re spending the whole weekend in Mexico on our dime.
This little self promoting micro-vacay is a slap in the face of struggling Alberta families, and it’s way out of step with the green plans of the NDP.
