It appears Hustler head honcho Larry Flynt has folks on the left twisting themselves into pretzels trying to make sense of the magazine’s most recent cover picture.
The cover features a woman wearing a hijab, made from an American flag, pulled up to reveal part of the woman’s bare breasts with a cover-line reading, “Freedom First.”
Flynt says Hustler’s 43rd anniversary issue is an “irreverent political statement against the taboos of repression,” but the fallout has been fast and curious.
Regardless of how you feel about Larry Flynt and the recent cover of Hustler, let’s hope the majority still cherishes the First Amendment.
And let’s also hope Islamist zealots aren’t too terribly offended by the imagery.
While I’m not a Hustler subscriber, I’d hate to see this issue become the magazine’s Charlie Hebdo moment.
