In defense of deplorable, racist speech

Jay FayzaRebel Columnist

I've always been a fan of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) for consistently being a principled organization that stands up for free speech, even if that speech is reprehensible.

Their recent defense of the alt-right "Unite The Right" rally, when the city of Charlottesville revoked their permit to legally protest the removal of a Confederate statue, speaks to the ACLU's integrity.

They did so in the face of despite the opposition of ACLU donors and many progressives.

WATCH my video to see why it would be dangerous to let the government decide which free speech is hate speech.

Faith should still be at the rebel if anyone really believes in free speech . Not 1 crumb to take you down Ezra .

There are a few people who post repeatedly on Rebel stories about how hateful everyone involved, including supporters who post such on the stories like this, are and how we’re all racist inbred pricks. I can’t help but notice that I rarely see that on stories by Jay, even tho the subject matter hits so many of the trigger issues these snowflakes have right in the belly button. I’d say that I wonder why that is, but I already know why. It’s because these evil mf’ers are cowards, they don’t know how to call someone like Jay a “racist” when he’s so conservative. I guess it’s because they don’t want witnesses to their heads’ exploding. They’re all over everything by Ezra, or anyone else on pretty much any topic that theRebel puts out there with a conservative viewpoint, but when Jay’s talking they’re suddenly really quiet and hard to find. Cowards.

“If we ever get to the place in our countries where only one side is allowed to present their argument democracy is done.”
Edward, it’s at the door, as we speak. If Justin has his way it will come to pass.

Spot on Jay. It all needs to be out into the light of day. Push it underground and it only grows bigger. Free speech is all speech absolutely, and defending the free speech of even those you find reprehensible does not make you a supporter of them. Those who would attack the Rebel need to get that straight.

The problem with censuring speech is, who decides what and who should be censored?

Who believes they have the moral authority to decide that for all people?

Absolutely, Jay. Free speech is the bedrock freedom upon which every other freedom stands or falls. The answer to stupid and/or evil ideas is logical, better, smarter, kinder, more benevolent ideas, not the silencing opinions we don’t agree with. If we want freedom of speech for ourselves, we must defend freedom of speech for jerks. Thank you for this post, Jay. I think it’s critically important at this current time in our history.

I look at free speech like a court case. If we ever get to the place in our countries where only one side is allowed to present their argument democracy is done. I admit it’s awkward defending the free speech of those who wouldn’t defend our free speech if they ruled the land but if we are no different from them who will dare tell us when we have changed.
