It is with the utmost pride and sincerity that I officially inaugurate the Truderpy awards, presented to those Liberals who have distinguished themselves through rank hypocrisy and shamelessness.
Our first "Truderpy" recipient is Justin Trudeau's 36-year old Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, former Quebecois boy-band heartthrob Peter Schiefke.
See if you can pick him out in this artistically shot early-2000's video, which features a whole lot of uncomfortable facial expressions, disorienting jump-cuts, awkward making out, and questionable fashion choices such as strategically (?) unfastened ties:
It's entirely keeping with our new Prime Minister's entry-level attitude to government that one of his Parl-Secs would be a member of a one-hit wonder boy band and an Al Gore-affiliated environmentalist to boot, but what really earned Mr. Schiefke his Truderpy award was for leaving the following comment underneath a Facebook photo of a young woman standing in a messy kitchen back in 2007:
"I'm sure you cleaned it up nicely, with you being a women (sic) and all! It's in your DNA, lol."
Now, let's recall that our new PM is an obnoxious white knight feminist who kicks members of his own caucus out following allegations of harassment without waiting around for that inconvenient "due process".
He got crusty old Liberal veteran John McCallum to apologize for telling Conservative MP Michelle Rempel to look more cheerful.
Because it is, after all, the current year, it makes no difference that this comment was made nearly a decade ago.
Mr. Schiefke needs to learn that joking about how women are biologically determined to clean kitchens went out with frosted tips, boot-cut jeans, flat-brimmed trucker caps and everything else that goes along with the boy band mindset.
