Justin Trudeau promised over and over again to lead an open and transparent government - so why is he doing the opposite?
In the irony of ironies, Trudeau’s government is holding back information on how they plan to change the Access to Information system, the system that is supposed to allow Canadians to know what their government is doing.
Watch as I show you yet another egregious broken promise from Trudeau.

To Information Act is important to our Democracy.

The recommendations themselves could potentially reduce access. For example, giving the Information Commissioner more power gives them the authority to stop individual ATIP requests because they feel them to be “vexatious” etc. The Commissioner should be helping to give access not take it away.
The fees they want to eliminate account for about $50,000 in total, so not a great savings. The $5 fee costs up to $55 to process; only in the government! Now they want to write new software to process ATIP requests; how many millions of dollars will this cost? The gov’t has already spent over $50 million trying to change the domain name of its web pages (really, look it up), will it succeed in “creating software”?
And waste? How many committees and meetings (including travel) have taken place? How much has been spent on this? And for what? In the end, looking at the proposals, little if anything will change if they are all implemented. They will only affect maybe 5% of all ATIP requests, maybe.
I would like to know how many calls Butts has made to Putin or Jinping for advice on how to do this.
To handle this with a smile, I’m sure Barry Obama is on speed dial!
