Jack Astor’s pulls “sassy” ad to quell outrage over “sexist” play on words

David MenziesMission Specialist

The latest billboard ad from Jack Astor’s restaurant chain has the perpetually offended in a tizzy.

The ad shows two fishbowl cocktails with copy that reads: “We like ’em big and round.”

It might make some chuckle, or strike some as distasteful, but it’s just an ad.

When political correctness runs amok however, even an innocuous billboard ad sporting a double entendre can spark outrage as seen in the comment section of a story in BlogTO entitled, “Toronto really isn’t liking the new Jack Astor’s ad campaign.”

In a city of 2.8 million people, do you think everyone in Hogtown is offended by this ad? Or is it just the usual squeaky-wheel halfwits with too much time on their hands?

Frank the Rotherdam gang raped more kids than all priests combined that year. Now go be a good stooge.

Frank must have a Professor Kitzel time machine he looks into history with LMAO! Oh sorry he read it on the internet just as valid.

Frank H:
You have just discredited yourself by your inaccurate and ill informed statement about Catholics and Christians. It is not only clear you know nothing about the subject, but you are an aggressive and ignorantly angry atheist.
Who wouldn’t be proud to be associated with the great people of the world, like John Paul II, rather than Mao Tse-tung or Stalin, who are probably your idols.
You must be a very lonely person.

Tammie Putinski-Zandbelt,

Not even close to being a speck compared to the hundreds of years of abuse from Catholic and Christian Priests and others associated with those churches.

It’s laughable that you even make such comparisons.

Teachers, coaches, boy scout leaders….men who procreate with the agenda to abuse their offspring – these groups flies in the face of your post Frank/Jack!

Jan G,

Christians and Catholics are the greatest offenders in history. Just ask the countless people who were fucked by a Priest when they were kids.

Of course, conservatives choose to ignore that fact.

Vinai when they quit bending over i will buy from them. You are missing the point here, all ads can be construed as bad or negative in some way, why the hell should it matter if it offends certain people only?
commented 2017-12-15 23:47:07 -0500
Frank Hohimer tell that to your left wing peers, we prefer free speech , we boycott for all , the left boycotts for their own importance.

Pardon my monopolizing the mic here, but I just saw the ad on the right of the screen for one of the current video games with a female hero character with triple Z breasts and only 1/4 of them covered.
If anyone is going to talk about sexualizing women and images used, then these videos, watched and played by kids and grown men, should be the NUMBER ONE subject to be addressed.

Not to mention, of course, the pornography on the internet. Internet porn is now an addiction for 9 year olds.
Who???? is screwed up?

“…without having the men fired from their jobs…”
Let me be clear on what I said, there were MANY men I knew in the 80’s, 70’s, 90’s and new millennia that should have been fired. Not, however, like the political witch hunt today.

Vinai:
You are correct on many points, however, the current destruction approach is not the answer. The feminist groups have now considered themselves as the authorities and will (already are) distorting the entire subject.
As a woman who championed women’s issues my entire life, I can say that this was an opportunity to make a difference, but it has now been abused and will continue to be abused. Why? Because it is being done for the wrong reasons. It isn’t being done to help women, it is being done to subjugate men. Big difference.
The liberals will now use this as a voting ploy and propaganda, and the feminists will use it to perpetuate their hate of men, and on and on and on.
Jack Astor’s should have been smarter than publishing an ad like this, not to appease this environment, but to prove how smart and clever they are. They could have been very funny and clever on how to deal with this, now they’re cowering like the rest of them.

I guess that leaves ‘When Harry Met Sally’ off the Christmas pick for pics. Too much sexism there.
Oh, for the 80’s when men and women could actually talk to each other without having the men fired from their jobs,

Tavis Smiley is the latest victim. Smart move on PBS’s part to target the Christian guy. Good opportunity to give him the boot and eliminate any of that Christian stuff on their lefty station.

I double dog dare the crazy left to cry foul over the song ‘I like big butts and I can not lie’.

Vinai Bhagirath, political correctness is fascism posing as sensitivity.

Not sure why everyone is panicking about this… I do believe that it’s bad to have this sort of ad staring down at our daughters. Certainly, many people are attracted to large breasts. But women as people are still routinely ignored and treated only as bodies. Women are faced with this reality constantly, and this type of ad only worsens the atmosphere. Objectification of women is a sad and uncomfortable truth, not really a joke. It certainly shouldn’t be illegal to place such an ad, but I think it’s reasonable to disagree with the message it is sending, and to voice that concern to the company. I know many here are concerned that “political correctness” will result in inhibitions on free speech. But those who disagree with such ads are only exercising their own freedom to speak, and exercising influence with their own wallets.

“just the usual squeaky-wheel halfwits with too much time on their hands?”
Answered your own question. The real question is “How do we prevent these squeaky-wheeled halfwits from making decisions about taste and acceptability for all of us?”

The free market is the best judge and ultimate censor in these types of issues. That being said, we have succumbed far too often to micro minority groups who have elected themselves to the lofty position of social ejudicators. These people are the source vector for many of these reactions which always display hyperbole .What isn’t outrageous and offensive to them?
The next step of course is government intervention to set “standards” to protect us from us. And of course Canada doesn’t have any First Amendment protections. We have the Sharia Brothers, Trudeau and Butts and all they need is a trumped up reason to silence us.

Never mind ‘big and round’, what about that logo. Rather an insult to a certain group isn’t it?

Frank you fuck wit, do something useful with your life, like, say…….donating your organs……all of them……now! Someone needs to prolong there life today.
The world will be a better place for it

Paul McCullough,

Do you really base everything on where they stand socially or politically? If you enjoy Jack Astor’s – who gives a shit about this.

Would you sell your car immediately if you found out that the car maker did something like this or perhaps even had an ad with a gay married couple (gasp!!!)?

Too bad. I’ve been to Jack Astor’s a couple times in the past. I won’t be going back it seems. The SJW fascists are never going to be satisfied, they never are. By caving, Jack Astor’s is empowering them further. I doubt any SJWs have ever even been to a Jack Astor’s – they don’t serve a strictly vegan diet. Not yet anyway.

If you eat or drink at any of these bland yuppie watering holes you deserve the heartburn and boring company they produce.

Political correctness instilled into the minds of idiots. Can anybody remember "laugh’. Unfortunately in these days of Trudeauism, fun is a sin.

The outrage industry will never be “appeased”…always looking for a new target!

Seems like Jack Astor’s “sassy” profile and image needs a remake.

My thoughts exactly Lana. If I’m getting your drift the way i think its intended. I had contemplated something similar. Feminists are so easily triggered and blame men all day for being sexist with nary a word against all the sexually liberated women (i.e. Sluts) parading their wares with no shame. So if a woman is wearing lulus in public i have a right to complain its sexist too then? Dont worry TO snowflakes, at the rate Sharia is taking hold in Ontario as fast as you nut jobs continue with 3rd wave feminism it wont be long until you’ll get what you wished for when youre forced to wear a burka etc. then maybe those big mean billboards won’t seem so bad?
