No, Brazil's new president Jair Bolsonaro isn't “far-right”

Rebel Staff

On last night's episode of The Ezra Levant Show, I explained why the mainstream media is wrong to label Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro "far-right".

Bolsonaro won 55% of the vote, he couldn't have done that without the support of voters across the spectrum. The media only considers 55% "divisive" when a conservative is the winner.

Brazil’s presidential elections have a Second Round (run-off) of voting whereby the two top candidates fight it out, with the winner always, by mathematical necessity, receiving over 50%. Hence, comparisons to Canada lack relevance. Bolsonaro leads the Social Liberal Party which received about 11.5% of the Congressional vote; roughly the same as the Worker’s Party. Avoid the terms “right-wing” and “left-wing.” The good news is that Bolsonaro seems poised to open up the Amazon River Basin for agricultural and resource development!!!
