Jamaican immigrant loves Fort McMurray: A place of "courage, dreams and ambitions"

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

While visiting Fort McMurray, I was told I just had to visit a Jamaican restaurant called Chez Max. I'm glad I did.

Fort McMurray, Alberta isn't where you'd expect to find a Jamaica restaurant called Chez Max, but as local activist and booster Robbie Picard told me, the city is far more diverse than most outsiders think it is.

I asked Maxine, the owner, how she felt about Alberta's frigid winters, considering that she'd moved here from Jamaica only one year ago.

She said the kindness and warmth of the local people more than make up for the climate.

"I don't feel homesick. This is my home."

Maxine also raved about what a great place Fort McMurray is to live your dreams, work hard and build a great life.

Warning: Her enthusiasm is contagious -- you may want to move here, too.

Terry, I’ve noticed you try to come across as an informed and calculating individual. Personally, I like the feel good stories that come out, regardless of where. But let me ask you something. What was your original point, if you had one? I must have missed it with your “journalist” bashing.

“Otherwise why would you spend so much effort trying to show how unimportant they are? "
LOL. The most visited attraction at any carnie is the Freak Show, Michael.

Michael, thanks for the tacit reminder that the Ethical Oil organization now, finally, acknowledges publicly that it DOES accept oil company donations.
Clearly an informed insider like yourself is in a position to tell us whether a discussion of whether Ezra’s anti-NDP political rallies are being sponsored by oil companies or political parties (did you miss that part?).

I am shocked, shocked! that Terry doesn’t find the reporting to his liking, and that he’s trying to change the subject. I’m certain that Woodward and Bernstein only covered one story in their lives, and that there were no political overtones of any sort to their coverage (too bad about the promises to South Korea that got broken in the following political upheaval but hey, eggs, omelets, right?). It’s much more important to talk about Terry’s pet project of the week. Still guessing on whether “Ethical Oil” was funded by oil companies pre-publication? It wasn’t.

Still throwing poo, eh Terry? Sorry monkey-boy, I like the odd story like this. Find me a news outlet that never has any like it. These people found success and a home despite what “everyone” (that you know?) knows. The odd thing about those who are really successful in their lives: they don’t follow what “everyone knows” will fail. They try anyways. Only by trying can one succeed. Usually in the face of conventional wisdom.

And thanks for elevating www.therebel.media in your own mind to being a true media outlet. You were in danger of piercing your cheek with your tongue, I know, but based on the amount of time you spend on here I know that you take Ezra, Brian, and the rest of the gang seriously. Otherwise why would you spend so much effort trying to show how unimportant they are?

So far Canada’s star investigative reporter has dug deep and found (a) an Aboriginal guy to explain to us why the Alberta oil sands are “the best thing that have ever happened to Aboriginal people”, and (b) a nice Jamaican lady who gets to plug her restaurant on the internet by making nice with Ezra.
Well, you can’t beat in depth analysis like that, in the finest tradition of I.F. Stone, Woodward and Bernstein.
In the meantime, a discussion of whether or not these anti-NDP political rallies being organized by a so-called “journalist” are being sponsored by oil companies or political parties has disappeared from the site. Does anyone know where that discussion went?

Stories like this is the biggest reason why I love therebel.media, Ezra, Marissa, Brian et al so much. They focus on REAL people like in this clip – REAL protesters (like the parents opposing Ontario’s sex-ed curriculum) . What a refreshing change from the mainstream media’s focus on professional paid protesters and know-nothing celebrities like Neil Young and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Cheers, fellow Rebels.

What? Ft. McMurray is a friendly place? That can’t be because it’s an evil oil town! Just ask the enviroweenies and the celebrity twits. They’ll tell ya just how evil Hiroshima … ummm… I mean Ft. McMurray is!
