(WATCH) John Stossel of Reason TV: Debating a scholarly journal editor who got hoaxed

Rebel Staff

Following up with a video on academic hoax papers, it's now time to interview the editor who published an intentionally outrageous, fake paper on rape culture in Portland's dog parks.

Roberto Refinetti is the editor-in-chief for Sexuality and Culture.

I used to be on the editorial board and a reviewer for “sexuality & culture” in the 1990s and early 2000s. In 2004, “sexuality & culture” published my 130-page opus on how the legal system responds to intimate partner violence. My conclusion is that there is significant anti-male bias in the system from start to finish. The companion piece in that issue was an annotated bibliography of hundreds of studies of intimate partner violence that show that men are as likely to be victims as women. I think it would be fair to characterize that entire issue of “sexuality & culture” as extremely politically incorrect, or “right wing,” even. It certainly originated as a journal willing to challenge the politically correct view of things. But that was 15 years ago. Maybe the journal has changed a lot since I was involved with it.

John Stossel has a full mustache, and that is probably why he is on here. He may be a failed journalist, but he is earnest.
