CRTC 'pick and pay' decision is too little, too late for that obsolete bureaucracy

John RobsonArchive

On this day in history -- March 26, 1959 -- Canada's television and radio journalists were finally permitted to join the Parliamentary Press Gallery, along with their colleagues at newspapers.

In a similar vein, this week the CRTC finally decided to allow consumers to choose which cable channels they wish to pay for, a la carte as it were.

While hailed by some as a sign that the CRTC is catching up with the times, this long overdue decision actually proves that bureaucracy didn't wait to become obsolete in the age of Netflix, Apple TV and other viewing options (such as, of course); they got there under Diefenbaker.

As a men’s rights activist I got fed up with Oprah day time TV and endless propaganda not to mention shows depicting men as all manner of villain interspersed with ads depicting men as all manner of hapless idiot some time ago.

On the wall of Coventry Cathedral there was once graffiti which read “LUFTWAFFE COME BACK ALL IS FORGIVEN”….

That about sums up how I feel about TV.

A joke. If the Government was truly concerned about consumer choice, it would open up the satellite markets to providers (like Direct TV) from south of the border. Instead, it sticks with the cozy little cartel. Nothing but a shell game.

I do not watch CTV, CBC, APTN or any of the french channels. This is NOT choice and I will not be purchasing any “skinny” package that includes channels I don’t want. When they actually offer total choice I might reconsider cable.

Just watch the myriad of channels no one watches disappear, maybe even the CBC. Wouldn’t that be nice.

Such an injustice for SNN.

The most recent blunder by the dolts at the CRTC has me convinced that it is time to dump Shaw Direct. What part of pick and pay don’t those unelected elites understand? I would never pick CBC or CTV or APTN, yet once again we are being forced to pay for it. Enough is enough, I’m bolting.
