Replace 'white' with 'Muslim' or 'black' and imagine the outrage this would cause.
In a new Buzzfeed video, people are asked to respond to the word 'white'.
Here are just some of the rather racist words spoken in the video.
“When I think about white, I think about maybe a group of people who I would love to be in harmony with, but don't feel that they feel the same way,” Sylvia, a Kenyan-American says.
“They don't acknowledge what happened in the past,” says a boy named Marabee who looks far too young to have ever actually experienced anything that 'happened in the past'. “They don't try to understand as well.”
“When I see the word white, the first thing that comes to mind would be privilege. Arrogance. Naive,” a black man from LA explains.
“Not all of them are wallowing freely and shamelessly in their privilege, but it seems like the ones that are, are typically male.”
Rightfully, the video has been panned on YouTube with the dislikes far outweighing the likes.
Buzzfeed Canada exposed its questionable race-based practices last week when its senior editor, Scaachi Koul said she was accepting pitches for stories from people preferably not white or male.
She had previously made offensive comments towards whites on the state broadcaster, the CBC, and was taken to task for her arrogance on the site's comment section.
