Justin Bieber, believer: Pop superstar talks God and celibacy

Amanda HeadRebel Contributor

Sure, there are a few people in show biz who aren’t shy about their Christian faith: Tyler Perry, Patricia Heaton, Chris Pratt

But one of the biggest names to start publicly discussing their religious beliefs is, believe it or not, musical prodigy turned troubled teen heartthrob Justin Bieber.

In a recent interview in Vogue, the 24-year-old singer, who’d been raised in a Christian home, talked about his struggles with sex and drugs. One admission is getting a lot of attention — his claim that he’d been celibate for a year before meeting and marrying model Hailey Baldwin (whose father, actor Stephen Baldwin, has also been outspoken about his evangelical Christianity.)

Bieber told Vogue:

“[God] doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff. He’s like, I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain. I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that. I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul. And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behaviour.”

Beiber, is this idiot still hanging out in the UK? The ‘In’ crowd over there will make him worse than he already was, if that is possible. Then, who am I to judge, at least he is not on welfare.

Pretty questionable to me. A lot of these celebrities jump on the “God” bandwagon at some point because they are bored and are looking for some new banner under which to parade. It gets them some attention and publicity. I do not buy it from Bieber.
And who is God to them? Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? That is the Christian “God”. All sorts of religions have a “god”. Does he speak about Jesus Christ and the salvation we can have through faith in him, through his atoning sacrifice on the cross and his resurrection?
Some of those statements made by Bieber are doctrinally questionable as well, as Amanda mentioned.
Kirk Cameron is a solid believer. The others I do not know. But I take most of these folks with a grain of salt. Most are phony baloneys.

I think that is awesome. Beiber is not my most fav Canadian, but I applaud this if it has helped him get his life on track. Christianity has definitely had a bad wrap for at least the last 20 years. It can only be a good thing that famous people proudly wear their Christian faith in these times of societal choreographed breakdown and replacement.
