It was supposed to be a tour to rehabilitate his image to chip away at the idea that Justin Trudeau is a spoiled, elite, millionaire playboy hanging out on private islands with billionaires and accepting gifts he shouldn’t.
Now while we saw big crowds and adoring fans, Trudeau wound up insulting many of them, making silly statements and the tour is just as likely to be remembered for gaffes as anything else.
The tour is only half way through, having hit Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada, but he still has to do the prairies and British Columbia.
Watch as I share some of the highlights with you.
Trudeau is now facing three official complaints to the commissioner of official languages over his bizarre performance in Sherbrooke, he’s the first PM in history to be investigated by the ethics commissioner over his free trip to a billionaire’s island, he claimed to understand the immigrant experience because of his wealthy, blue-blood grandfather, and he blamed the high hydro prices an Ontario woman complained about on our dependence on oil and said he couldn’t do much about it because it was provincial jurisdiction but then turned around and said Canada needs to phase out the oil sands and the oil industry - which is provincial jurisdiction!
This was supposed to be a tour that showed him as in touch, connected with the middle class and those working hard to join it.
Instead this tour just confirmed that Trudeau is extremely out of touch and that when taken off script, he is a hazard to his handlers.
When it comes to the concerns of ordinary Canadians, he really is just in way over his head.
