Lauren Cooley: Diversity trumps free speech on campus

John CardilloRebel Host | Off The Cuff

On last night's episode of Off The Cuff DeclassifiedLauren Cooley, Higher Education Editor for the Washington Examiner, joined me to discuss allegations that the NRA threatened Parkland students, and diversity trumping free speech on college campuses.

Lauren's recent article reported on a survey that found college students believe diversity is more important than free speech.

There has been a major push to promote diversity on campus, but it's important to recognize that this doesn't mean diversity of thought and opinion.

Diversity now means "checking off boxes" and making sure there are enough Hispanics, blacks, women, LGBTQ — and basically anybody who isn't a straight white male.

Conservative speakers, like Jordan Peterson, are routinely silenced and attacked on campuses. Pro-Life groups have been refused registration by left-wing college administrators, and instructors who allow for conservative viewpoints to be heard in classes have faced disciplinary action

But Diversity and Free Speech are not mutually exclusive, in fact, they can co-exist together quite nicely. The question posed to students choosing between one or the other is a logical fallacy, and therefore, a non-question. IMHO
