Trigger warning! Meet college students FIGHTING BACK against campus censorship

Lauren SouthernArchive

As a student with right wing leanings, I've been berated, laughed at, kicked out of university clubs and had almost no representation for my political views on campus.

In fact, arguing for more conservative or libertarian principles at college is pretty much discouraged by current campus culture. I've fought back on a small scale, refusing to have my voice silenced, and luckily I'm not the only student doing so.

Tonight I have Hunter Swogger, a student and University of Michigan, and Charlie Peters at University of Edinburgh on to discuss their battle for free speech and open discourse. It’s a battle that isn't so easy when you're at a campus like U of M whose students have called the police over Trump supporting chalk, or Edinburgh, where they’ve banned raising ones hand because it's deemed triggering.

As ridiculous as they sound, these incidents are very real and are just a few examples of how insane campus culture has become.

The university student council is a complete waste of money. Student councils are a tax, where the money is blown on stupid causes or on trips for the student politicians. Furthermore, money goes to the stupid war between CASA and CFS, where both organizations do nothing except to drain the wallets of students.

I realize now that when I was in college and university , we were facing the same , social sciences students that would spend their time lecturing you on how to think and behave, myself , I never really bother with them , I was busy graduating from organic chemistry and could not wait to get out of school and earn a living. I guess, ..? I was a guy from the right and I didn’t know it.

Anything that prevents the spread of “right wing cancer” is good!

Regarding posters on campus: our student political group put up two sets of posters in close proximity. One was titled “WHO CARES?” and noted that only 8% of the student body voted in campus elections. The second posters were about a talk we were sponsoring that brought a provincial cabinet minister to our college. Someone took a couple of posters and some scissors and photocopied 30 or 40 “WHO CARES?” posters with the cabinet minister meeting information.

We collected all of them we could find and had a brainstorming session (I suspect beer was involved, but it was a long time ago). We wrote on their remade posters and re-posted them. (eg WHO CARES? “anyone with a future, idiot”, “if you love the government, stay home”, “Things are going so good we don’t need to protest”). The room we booked was full when the minister came to campus.

Back when I was in university, the engineers had a shirt that read, “Friends don’t let friends take arts.”

The liberal arts faculty is where all the stupid political correctness comes from.

Great show Lauren. 35 years ago in high school I ran for “Head Boy” and worked hard on my speech. My opponent followed me with the promise of free drugs for everyone. Can you guess who won? This proves that the problem has changed in one way. The age of infantilism has increased by a few more years thanks to the coddling of youths for longer and longer. You give me hope the trend may soon reverse itself.

Universities were once institutions of higher learning – now they’re institutions of indoctrination & weakness. Good on Hunter & Charlie for challenging this nonsense.

Notice how these were three young people who are articulate and able to speak without the Um’s, Ah’s, Duh’s that Junior relies on for a speech? However, it seems that the right wing progressive students are articulate because they have had to think out and defend their arguments; as opposed to the left wing regressive students who don’t and can’t think.

Hunter Swogger mentioned that a defining feature of the left regressives is they don’t have a sense of humour…maybe that is because they are the joke. Also with Hunter’s interview, I now have to go and dig out my Pink Floyd album…

Anyone who would attack you physically, vocally, legally for a political or ideological opinion is by definition a fascist.

I’m amazed campus admin. promotes this dehumanizing social cancer by not purging it from the campus. If they won’t, the students must.

No institution can withstand the damage to reason/learning/intellect that neo-fascism presents. It is a dark force and the antithesis of intellectual and cultural evolution.

When these extremist “free speech for me, but never for thee” children become the age where they run the country, then I hope that I am no longer around.

They are being propagandized and groomed by the education system to become the new communist dictators.

We are already seeing this to some degree in our child PM who does not even come close to the maturity and statesmanship displayed by Harper. The contrast between Harper the Statesman and Trudeau the little boy could not be more disparate.

Lisa Rosie: Lisa my friend, you asked if “we want these walking wounded, developmentally arrested, retarded children, to be our future leaders?” Personally I say of course we don’t, but I’m afraid it’s too late. We now have a treasonously corrupt, retarded, brain dead, idiot child sitting in the ‘way to big for him’ PMs chair.
Harpers’ shoes are too big for him ever to fill. In fact he’s not even qualified or smart enough to shine them for the great & Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Canada’s saviour, #1 most respected, admired world leader & Statesman, of the best country in the world during his time. Now we’re down to 43rd best out of the top 50 leaders, just behind several third world leaders. What a joke Canada has become under the turdbrain Trudeau. Quickly becoming a Commie dictatorship, just like the Cuba or China he so admires. Yes, our youth have been horribly misled, c/w leftist indoctrination by the corrupt, irresponsible teaching profession in all parts of Canada.
It’s long past time to outlaw unionization of all government employees & remove their voting obligation/rights, as is required for democratic governance, to eliminate political bribery by Liberal & Lefty politicians like Wynne, Trudeau & Notley, the axis of evil leading to Canadas’, fast approaching demise.
We’re now & possibly forever, (if Trudeau gets another term) totally screwed. Unless we boot the bastard Liberals in every province plus Ottawa, next time out.

The one aspect of the Islamists taking over that i will quite enjoy will be seeing the SJW’s making some stupid demand of them , it will be quite comical.

Point taken MP. However there is always a short version offered for free. After all its not like this is the only place one could possibly find such information on this topic. If anyone needs more info for free, the names of the guests are in everyone’s view to check out if they are interested. Other than having to pay 8 bucks a month you don’t want to, I don’t see what your gripe is.

Great episode Lauren. I’m surprised you didn’t mention Sargon of Akkad’s petition on this topic, especially considering you were on his live Youtube hangout on this very topic. Opportunity lost I think, that petition has the potential to go viral globally. I would have thought The Rebel would be all over it.

I’m so glad to see that there are a few young conservatives pushing back. Let them be an example to the rest of us. What is more important than free speech? Absolutely nothing.
These safe space, space cadets will be a liability to themselves and society as a whole if this behaviour is allowed to fester uncountered. These infants need some toughening up, not more coddling. We have to stop giving in to this nonsense. Time to take off the gloves.
Do we want these walking wounded, developmentally arrested, retarded children to be our future leaders?
