British child-killer Jon Venables is back in the news.
Who can forget the story of two-year old James Bulger, snatched during a shopping trip in Merseyside, England by a pair of 10-year-olds, Jon Venables and Robert Thompson?
Venables and Thompson were supposed to be imprisoned for a long time, but in 1999, the European Commission on Human Rights determined that the duo had been denied a fair trial and fair sentencing.
Interference by this kangaroo court put the wheels in motion for their release in 2001 along with an unprecedented court order granting them anonymity for the rest of their miserable lives.
It’s rumoured that Thompson now lives in either Canada or Australia and he’s managed to stay off the radar, but Venables – whatever his name is now – keeps getting into trouble.
Clearly, he hasn’t learned. Recently, Venables was convicted yet again on more child pornography charges yet, some see nothing wrong in how the Bulger case unfolded.
This may be a British story, but the folly of embracing the left’s “hug-a-thug” mentality has wide-reaching ramifications.
