Liberal senators' spending scandals ignored by Media Party

Brian LilleyArchive

The Senate spending scandal has been portrayed as a Conservative problem all centred around Stephen Harper's bad Senate picks and Mike Duffy.

But the actual audit shows the problem is more widespread and the top "misspenders" appear to be Liberal appointees.

I separate the myth and the reality.

Hey Brian, Bob Fife was on CTV News yesterday and referred to every conservative senator under investigation as “Tory senator…” and every other (Liberal) senator as “Senator…” with no party affiliation. The bias is obvious and disgusting, but that is the state of the media in Canada.

The “Media Circus Party” is totally biased in favor of the Liberals! They are anti-Harperites and will do everything possible to discredit his government! Where is Mr. Fyfe on this issue? Has he managed to wipe all the “egg” off his face yet?

I always admit my conservative leanings either before or at some time during a political debate with someone, but it doesn’t seem to be necessary in this forum. That said, numbers don’t lie, and it’s certainly not the result of any conservative bias that, according to CTV, of the top five Canadian Senators listed by how much they owe taxpayers from the most to the least, the top four are Liberal appointees under Martin and Chretien. Exactly 15 of the 30 Senators, both sitting and retired, are Conservative appointees and the other half are all Liberal appointees. Interestingly, 8 of the 10 Senators that allegedly owe the smallest amounts, according to the CTV report, are Conservative appointees.
Now, one might argue that since Harper is the most recent PM to govern with a majority, his appointments to the Senate are new, and as such have had only a few years or less in which to accumulate improper expenses. By contrast, the Liberal Senate appointments under Martin and Chretien are much older, with many still serving, and all have had more time to accrue large amounts of expenses that — for the most part — are only now, for the first time, being scrutinized and treated as improper.
Duffy’s assistant recently testified being told by other staffers back in 2009 that this was how things were done, ostensibly for the sake of efficiency. The Deloitte audit also found a lack of clarity in Senate regulations and guidelines when referring to primary and secondary residences, and concluded no fault on Duffy’s part in claiming expenses.
Ironically, the mainstream media’s targeting, the public scrutiny, and eventually the aggressive criminal prosecution of Conservative-appointed Senators like Mike Duffy has only revealed that the system itself is the problem. The CTV report just confirms that Liberal Senators are equally if not more culpable than Conservatives for taking personal advantage of longstanding bureaucratic shortcuts and loopholes.

“Liberal senators’ spending scandals ignored by Media Party”

Oh, come on, Brian, everybody knows that it is only the Conservatives that are guilty!

Like everyone said, you’re gonna have to take over the CBC Brian

Two things are guaranteed here. The Socialist Media will focus on the Conservative Appointees ignoring the rest. We will hear nothing from the Socialist Media when the Mac Harb (Liberal) trial begins later this year.

CTV or Global have the opportunity to exploit this, especially with appointees formerly from the cbc, but if their collusion runs deep they will only giving it passing acknowledgement.

“How the Media will cover the Liberals?” How about “If they’ll even bother.”
