The House of Commons Immigration Committee wrapped up for the summer after looking at ways to help Yazidi asylum seekers get to Canada faster. The religious minority is facing a UN declared genocide at the hands of ISIS, but Liberals think we can worry about solutions in the fall.
The committee heard shocking testimony from Christian NGO, Samaritan’s Purse, that Yazidis in UN-controlled refugee camps are systematically discriminated against by Muslim UN Aid workers who staff the camps. They’re being kept off UN refugee lists that countries like Canada use to get access to refugee claimants.
But the committee is done and breaking for ten weeks. There were no concrete plans to help, nor were any targets set for how many Yazidis Canada needs to get out of these UN-run cesspools. Instead, Liberals drafted a letter to Immigration Minister John McCallum with no specific recommendations only stating that refugee claims need to be accelerated.
Letters stop genocide when you want to go on a ten week summer break, apparently.
The Trudeau Liberals were really good at setting refugee targets when it came to Syrian refugees already safely in Turkey, outside the war zone. Trudeau promised to get 25,000 Syrian refugees into Canada in ten weeks, the exact amount of time they’re taking as a break from thinking about Yazidi genocide.
Trudeau Liberals were willing to move heaven and earth to get these barely vetted Syrian refugees with fancy luggage into Canada, even resorting to making plans to uproot Canadian military personnel so bases might be used to house the refugees. The plan to get Syrian refugees into Canada was so detailed in every aspect (except vetting) that there was even a budget line for Korans and prayer rugs.
In ten weeks, the Trudeau liberals deployed millions in government resources to help Syrians. But when it comes to Yazidis, instead of saving 25,000 lives in ten weeks, the Liberals are going on holidays.
They can’t let genocide get in the way of summer fun.
