The topic of immigration is the subject of heated debate in libertarian circles.
Some anti-statists believe in open borders as a matter of principle, but I think that's misguided in this case.
In fact, some leading libertarian thinkers point out that bringing in refugees can be a form of "forced integration" by the State.
This in turn violates the non-aggression principle which is the very basis of libertarianism.
We need to answer some very important questions:
What about the number of refugees who'll be dependent upon the welfare state, thereby making it grow even larger? How does that square with libertarian, small-government beliefs?
Economic arguments aside, what about the cultural impact on Canada? These refugees don't come from a culture of liberty.
Would my fellow libertarians support bringing thousands of hard line communists into the country? I doubt it.
Look at the huge cultural shift that Europe is experiencing right now to see what lies in store for Canada if we import people who are numerous enough to undermine our culture of freedom.
