WATCH: This libertarian explains why 'open borders' advocates are WRONG about refugees

Lauren SouthernArchive

The topic of immigration is the subject of heated debate in libertarian circles.

Some anti-statists believe in open borders as a matter of principle, but I think that's misguided in this case.

In fact, some leading libertarian thinkers point out that bringing in refugees can be a form of "forced integration" by the State.

This in turn violates the non-aggression principle which is the very basis of libertarianism.

We need to answer some very important questions:

What about the number of refugees who'll be dependent upon the welfare state, thereby making it grow even larger? How does that square with libertarian, small-government beliefs?

Economic arguments aside, what about the cultural impact on Canada? These refugees don't come from a culture of liberty.

Would my fellow libertarians support bringing thousands of hard line communists into the country? I doubt it.

Look at the huge cultural shift that Europe is experiencing right now to see what lies in store for Canada if we import people who are numerous enough to undermine our culture of freedom.

All of Lauren’s videos sound like a first-year college student reading an essay verbatim. Cogently stated intros, theses, main bodies and conclusions. Very informative and well argued points just not exactly the riveting material people might otherwise expect here. Anyways… snooze fest.

I would support the unrestricted immigration into Canada of Christian refugees fleeing Syria’s Daesh and Ahrar ash-Sham’s “moderate” Salafist rape and death-squads. According to the principles outlined in the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, these people qualify as legitimate refugees unlike the hundreds-of-thousands of young, military-aged men evading conscription. If our country has a moral humanitarian obligation to refugees, it is to those Christians presently experiencing genocide in Africa and the Middle East.

If there is one thing I hate about the rebel, it is that it attracts conspiracy loonies like this guy, who starts to think that the rebel is his new home. Ever notice that most of the people that leave comments here are WAY more extreme than the rebel staff are?

Lauren ,
You are wrong on only one thing; its more like 21% of so called “Syrian refugees” that are pro ISIS .
Otherwise you nailed it. Any Muslim coming from another country is not congruent with our Western culture and values and will never assimilate unless they denounce their religion and become non denominational or Christian. This whole facade of the Muslim immigration flood is designed to bring chaos to North America and Europe courtesy of the New World Order Globalists of whom Trudeau and Obama are useful- idiot puppets. Once we are in total disarray and chaos by rape, ISIS terrorism, etc, they will the bring in martial law and take away more of our human rights . Trudeau only needs to sign the UN Arms Treaty and the TPP to effectively set this whole Tyranny in motion. Then we are all screwed as a sovereign and free nation.

Here is the short answer.

Libertarians should only open the borders to other libertarians. I hate to say this, but diversity in political ideologies only leads to more conflict.

Islam is just as much a political movement as it is a religion. In fact I think more so. This is our vulnerability. The naive in our society are being completely fooled by the pretence of religiosity that the Muslims present to our face. And yes, there are moderates. But in almost all cases, the so called moderates have been totally overcome by the stonger and more radical individuals and groups within their faith. If the converse were true, we would not have all these refugees that are victims of the radical Islamists within their own countries.
Of course there is concern that a few radicals bent on our destruction will secret themselves into the ranks of the refugees being brought here. But this is a present danger . The long term danger , the more insidious danger is that of the growth of the Nation of Islam within our nation. The majority of these peoples will never assimilate into the fabric of our Western Society. They will bring with them all their grievances that have plagued them for centuries. Their lives will be guided by the Quran, not the Laws and Constitution of our land.
I see no reason to bring refugees here. We have an obligation to help our fellow man, but we can help them in many other ways that will not threaten our very existence. The folly of Europe , their abject stupidity is right before our eyes .And we have fools as our leaders , lost in dreams of a Utopia. God help us.

It’s too late there already here and more coming. Our culture has been eroding for the last 20 years. In 20 years you will not recognize this country

Well I am a pre baby boom generation guy. and have been through several, “20 years you will not recognize this country” phases, and can assure you that each “progressive” step forward was indeed two steps backward regarding personal freedom and quality of life. Better diet, communications, transportation, working conditions, all pale in the face of the loss of individual responsibility and personal freedom incurred over the last half century. The so called “social justice” movement is quite contrary to what one may think the name implies. In “newspeak” most such social innovations are exactly the antithesis of what is purported.
I can say without doubt that Canada during my earlier years, late forties and through the fifties, was several magnitudes better in all those respects than it is at present.

In the Middle East, they don’t matter a fig. The extremists and the dictators call the shots, and the average Muslim is left out in the cold. Notice how quickly anti-dictator movements in Tunisia, Libya and Syria were quickly engulfed by the mob of extremists.

Excellent quote by Learned Hand!!
Moderate Muslims are irrelevant. If they made a difference, ISIS never would’ve got off the ground. Societies are swayed by the extremists, as they’re the one’s that live, breath and fight for change, while the rest of us simply go about our business! The moderates were of no help in Nazi Germany, Mao’s China etc etc . . . . .

Also since when did a libertarian become a Quaker, not bloody likely, I’m a libertarian and I won’t take shit from anyone especially corrupted governments.

I am slightly Libertarian but this is where we depart. A libertarian believes basically in no borders and employers importing whomever they choose. I believe no employer has a right to pay entry wages that puts the nation at risk from immigrants.

Lauren, I was particularly struck by one of the backdrop maps in your commentary. It showed a world map indicating rape culture. Only places not red were Canada, USA, Western Europe (partially), Australia, and NZ. In other words, the British Commonwealth residuals. And they say the Empire was no good? The British empire was the greatest influence for general good since the Roman Empire. But it’s diminishing.
