(WATCH) Lindsay Shepard: “Online hate” in Canada

Look What We FoundStories from around the web

A short discussion of current affairs related to online hate, censorship, and free speech from Lindsay Shepard who covers some of the people demanding online censorship.

Shepard was invited to give a statement to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights in their study of online hate next month, and her research on previous statements given to the committee show a worrisome trend.

ANDREW STEPHENSON
It’s not the fault of social media that the two are so hard to tell apart these days.
-—————————————
This is only a problem for those on the Left who hold to the Three Pillars of Leftiedom. This is the 3rd pillar- the refusal to exercise discernment.

“And no one is entitled to force anyone to call them their imagined pronoun , but you love
seeing that happen”
People do have the right to not be subject to malicious attacks which pronoun denial is – based upon some aspect of their identity.

The Leftard troll is an expert of flinging piles against the wall but as per usual none of it sticks. It claims “I don’t think conservatives are being silenced. Most conservatives are fine” such a propagandist give it a round of applause. No matter the evidence put in front of the troll it will deny it, the only reality that exists to the Leftard troll is its own reality.

“Andrew Stephenson like others have said CBC is tax funded so people have a right to comment no matter their view”.
shrug. There is a line as to what’s acceptable, though. It’s a matter of where that line is drawn, which is a reasonable debate, I think. It should no be a free-for-all. (in fact, I think that it shouldn’t have comments at all, but I digress). “And quit calling FB and Twitter platforms, they do not apply the agreed terms to everyone the same , so they are a publisher.”

Publishers have discretion over what they publish. This is especially true in the US where corporate rights seem to even exceed individual ones on matters of who they serve. “I hope the US changes their legal status in this regard” Doubtful, and it wouldn’t hold up in court. Even if it did, they merely need to change their domicile. To Canada, perhaps.

“And no one is entitled to force anyone to call them their imagined pronoun , but you love
seeing that happen”
People do have the right to not be subject to malicious attacks -which pronoun denial is – based upon some aspect of their identity. This is merely one very specific type of something that’s constitutionally protected.

. “And please tell me why big multi national corporations are allowed to be unregulated if they are silencing Conservatives when progressives usually want corporations over regulated?”

I don’t think conservatives are being silenced. Most conservatives are fine. Very specific issues are (again, bigotry, mostly). It’s not the fault of social media that the two are so hard to tell apart these days.

Any hate speech legislation will be misused to silence one’s political enemies, and since this push to enact hate speech legislation is being pushed by the left, it does not take a genius to figure out that it will be use to silence people with conservative opinions.

I am sure that would thrill some of the “progressive” trolls that post their comments on this website.

PETER, Status of Women have been trying to get this law passed ever since the days of Sheila Copps. One thing the KenWeibe/BC FATHERS lawsuit established was that the assertion that criticising feminism constituted hate speach against women had no legal merit…feminist and woman are not interchangeable terms. It also established that “policy research” done by feminist academics , while it may be abundant in academic high speech, is very unprofessional and deserving of critical response. The lawsuit was over a report on the boy crisis in education and it’s saguay into McCarthy listing all of the MRA websites and doxing activists on the web at that time.

The notion that feminists have an elite political status in Canada exists only in the wishfull thinking of the Liberal party. Status of Women was established by Order in Council. Harper could have ended it with the stroke of a pen without even needing to table the matter in parliament….more housekeeping negligence on his part.

David Menzies should do a FOIA search and find out which “advocacy” groups got their SOW funding restored. It included the Nasty Dyke Book Emporium (no I am not making that up).

Maurice Potvin…. I’m not about to force my views on anyone. You leave me alone and I’ll leave you alone. You try to force your views on me, and I’m coming for you…. individual or government, it doesn’t matter, I’m coming.
-——————————————————————————————-
Maurice you can’t possibly be fairer than your above view, however I notice most minorities seem to not only practice their views, but they also want OUR ATTENTION on them. For instance Gay Pride Parades. Why aren’t there parades for married men and women? Gays I believe are around 5% of the population, yet they receive close to 15% of the Media attention.

Have you seen the new Gillette Commercial where a father is teaching his Trans-sexual son to shave. Trans-people are less than 1% of the people, with this commercial, The Rebel and the MSM will be making comments on it day and night. My point is I really don’t give a shit about that trans boy, yet I’m forced to watch this stuff all the time.
Last of all, Blacks in America are only 12% of the population, yet they get close to 50% of the attention. If Whites ignore them, we are called racist. The best example is Hollywood; Eight years ago Blacks rarely won an emmy; now the MSM Headlines would be full of accusations if there weren’t Blacks all over the stage and in the audience.
It is not hate in any way to say, you do your thing in your own space, and we will do the same.

These bizarre accusations of hate coming from the trans-gender community are exactly the opposite of what’s really happening. If those who disagree with the trans-gender lifestyle were really the hateful, intolerant ones, wouldn’t they be the ones trying to silence the trans-gender community rather than the other way around? No, it’s obvious that it’s the trans-gender community that hates everyone who won’t affirm their lifestyle choices. As a Christian, I believe God only had one plan for human sexuality, and that’s for one man and one women to come together in marriage and stay together for life. But I’m not about to force my views on anyone. You leave me alone and I’ll leave you alone. You try to force your views on me, and I’m coming for you…. individual or government, it doesn’t matter, I’m coming.

Stephenson commented – “… Free speech does not mean you’re entitled to broadcast on a specific platform. …”

The troll’s hypocritical colors are showing again. It would sing a different tune if for example it would get banned from specific platforms simply because it is Leftard.

Question – are all Leftards this stupid or is this particular one just extra special?

Ogre is way off base, but she is Michelle Rempel’s new best girlfriend so I gather by Rempel’s support and her blocking behavior on twitter, that the CPC don’t really care much about free speech. There is no such thing as free speech – but – have the correct opinion. There is only free speech. Everyone knows that inciting violence is a crime.

“There’s not a damn thing I can do about Facebook and the CBC stealing my right to free speech!”

Free speech does not mean you’re entitled to broadcast on a specific platform.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Every citizen in Canada pays an involuntary subscription to the CBC. At the very least, if the CBC is going to deplatform someone a refund of that involuntary subscription is in order. Which would suit me fine. If all it took to get a refund was to say what you honestly think about the CBC, the defunding of the CBC would be assured.

I was on FACEBOOK for a matter of weeks when it first started. I read the first update of it’s terms of service…fine print and all…and…being a dissident vulnerable to doxing at the time…I couldn’t get off FACEBOOK fast enough and I took extreme measures to scrub it’s residual hold off of me like skunk musk…even going so far as to buy a new computer and totally distroying the hard drive of the previous one. I frankly don’t understand why any political dissident or person of PC disfavour would click the agree box and participate in FACEBOOK voluntarily….you should wear it as a badge of honour if they kick you off of it.

As for the fragile feminists wanting to censor all critics….tell me all about it…the alumnae association of my alma mater went all over Halifax /Dartmouth franticly buying up every copy of FRANK magazine containing my oppinion of the hostile environment sexual harrassment of male students….that was in 1989 and they still persist. The word still seems to get out in spit of their best efforts.
commented 2019-05-27 13:56:00 -0400
The word hate is used to define any opinion other than some PC talking points. There has to be a venue for contrary opinions or else we might turn into another Britain where only BBC approved speech is allowed. Of course we have our own CBC that mirrors the dictates of Trudeau and his Liberal party. Now with a federal election approaching there is a concerted effort to quash all negative opinions of the government by controlling social media and of course the mainstream media. The 660 million dollar expenditure by Trudeau proves the point. Lindsay is a brave soul who understands the dangers of censorship and should be applauded for her participation in the House of Commons study of online hate.

I can’t even believe we are here. People with huge chips on their broad shoulders are insufferable. Their paranoia should not be allowed to turn into a power grab. What gives these people the right to dictate what is hate speech. We already have it clearly spelled out. Inciting violence (the definition is not fluid) or uttering threats is against the law. In a free society opinions are a right, so is ridicule. I do not have to have the same opinion on things as Morgan Ogre.

Lindsey will be a stellar citizen speaker at the committee. Not that she will be saying what they want to hear. We live in clown world.

Safety in numbers.
Perhaps a meeting of people who refuse to accede their rights in two or three locations. Are they going to arrest 2000 people at a time?
commented 2019-05-27 10:17:36 -0400
Who gets to say what constitutes hate speech?
I’m shut down on Facebook – and can’t comment on most Media Party comments sections because I’m suspended on Facebook – and have been for most of the last 6 or 7 months…for my dissent – which Zuckerberg labels as hate speech!
I’m signed into THEREBEL through my email and not Facebook.
I’m PERMANENTLY BANNED from commenting on the CBC, for dissent, er hate speech…
If someone was to tell me to my face that I’m speaking hate…since I know I’m not, I would feel obliged to punch their lights out for the insult and the slander. There’s not a damn thing I can do about Facebook and the CBC stealing my right to free speech!
Lift up your heads and take a good look around, this online ‘hate speech’ curtailment is BS and it is a juggernaut rolling over us, unstoppable, deadly! Once implemented it spells the beginning of the end of our Western, sovereign and democratic nation of Canada…
commented 2019-05-27 10:08:28 -0400
You should present comparisons on censorship in countries like Russia, China, and how political censorship – wrongthink – often described as “hate speech”, is weakening our democracies.
The only speech that should be banned is if it CLEARLY encourages physical harm against others.
“I hate green people” is okay, “All green people must die” is not.
