(FLASHBACK) Maclean's "grotesque" Omar Khadr cover is "propaganda"

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

(Originally published November 4, 2015) Have you seen the cover of the new Maclean’s magazine? That’s Rinelle Harper sitting down — she’s the Aboriginal woman who was attacked and left for dead in Winnipeg.

She became a symbol for racist violence against Aboriginal women — though her alleged attacker was himself Aboriginal.

That girl on the right is Amanda Lindhout. She was a waitress who decided she wanted to be a war reporter in Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia; she was kidnapped by Muslim terrorists and tortured and raped repeatedly.

So you’ve got two innocent women who were brutalized by violence and would never hurt a fly.

And then you’ve got Omar Khadr standing behind them, with a huge grin on his face.

Omar Khadr is a confessed, convicted Al Qaida terrorist. He plead guilty to five charges of war crimes. He murdered Sgt. Christopher Speer, leaving Tabitha Speer a widow, and their two children, Taryn and Tanner, fatherless.

Omar Khadr has never renounced Al Qaida or said that he regrets what he did.

Here’s how Maclean’s describes him, though:

"Omar Khadr was imprisoned in Guantanamo, captured in 2002 by American forces in Afghanistan and charged with war crimes.”

So, no mention of the murder he confessed to or his conviction for war crimes.

Would Maclean’s magazine put a smiling, chatty Paul Bernardo on their cover, and say, "he’s suffered so deeply in prison — all because he was charged with crimes."

Both are pathological murderers. Why the celebrity treatment?

This isn’t journalism.

This is propaganda.

READ The Enemy Within: Terror, Lies, and the Whitewashing of Omar Khadr, Ezra Levant’s new book about domestic terrorism and radicalization.

Terrorist Omar Khadr’s relaxed bail conditions are a threat to public safety.

I just don’t get it. What, exactly is the purpose of having Omar on the cover? So many leftists are crying for the poor lad, saying he “deserves” another chance. Why? Has he renounced the acts that got him in trouble? Has he apologized to the families of his victims? Have they (all of them) forgiven him? This guy has done exactly one thing in his entire life: thrown a grenade. That’s it. What else has this guy done? Anyone? Has he written any books? Has he run any marathons? I don’t think he’s even on record as having an opinion on anything, except that killing that medic was the best thing that ever happened to him and that black female guards are bitches and slaves. Anyone got anything else to add to his list of accomplishments? I guess you could include his ability to make Liz May get all twitterpated. It’s like; the right wing hates him for what he’s done, and the Canadian right wing hates him especially because of his citizenship of convenience. But, because of his age, the left wing loves the guy simply because he’s the embodiment of most of the things the right wing hates but, but, he was only FIFTEEN!!! Nevermind that that fact would save him in any way from justice in Canada, or in Afghanistan, or in Pakistan, or in the US, or pretty much anywhere else in the world. It’s a wedge issue, and the left is more than happy to put some shoulder into that division. Really guys (leftists), if he came out publicly and apologized to the families of his victims, renounced the system that caused him to do what he did, and publicly asked for forgiveness with a promise to be a good Canadian citizen and obey the laws of this good land for the rest of his life, you might find a few right wingers willing to take up his cause. But until this happens, you leftist dogs just keep on salivating at the mere mention of his name. One comment I hear regularly from the left: apologize for what? Really. That’s low. Harper apologizes for generations of abuse of First Nations peoples that neither he nor his party has anything to do with, and it’s never going to be good enough. But little Omar just smiles for the camera and all is forgiven! Two faced, and too stupid to realize it.

Terry, you’re getting your ass kicked here! Allow me to pile on: As a suggestion, has anyone bothered to ask the Speer widow and/or the two kids their opinions? I wonder what their take is on regarding the guy who murdered their husband/father being on the cover of a national newsmagazine, smiling with two female victims of crime instead of a booking photo? Tell you what; find an interview with any of those three saying they agree that poor little Omar deserves to be given the rock-star treatment because of all the trauma he’s suffered at the hands of their husband/father (oops, see what I did there?) and I’ll come to your defense, just a little. Game on?

That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I cancelled my subscription the Maclean’s, it has been a long time coming, but, enough is enough.

I just sent the following to MacLean’s (http://www.macleans.ca/contact-us/) in regard to this disgusting cover:
In regard to the cover on your November 16, 2015 issue of MacLean’s, I am very, very disgusted that you would put Omar Khadr, a convicted and unrepentant murderer of a US Military man who left behind a widow and two young children, on your cover with two women victims (Amanda Lindhout and Rinelle Harper) who have been subjected to unimaginable horror and torture. How dare you compare this criminal with these unfortunate women! Shame on you and your magazine!

I will never see the similarities between the two young ladies and Omar. Or was Omar repeatedly beaten and raped as a young boy? Does the article say that anywhere? He is definitely a war criminal and a terrorist, confessed or otherwise. The many IED’s that he planted that may have also killed and maimed Canadians is just cause alone to have him locked up for life. So why is he in this group. He can have his own article not alongside these two victims.

Ron Voss, do you feel your postings here, and your association with this site, reflect the principle that “Those who would lead God’s people must above all exemplify sacrifice, devotion, submission and lowliness”? You know, as set out in the guidelines of the Canadian Association of Lutheran Congregations? Just wondering.

From Che Guevera to Omar Khadr there has never been a terrorist the left didn’t idolize.

JAY KELLY i want to deny him everything he denied speers. You know who that is right the guy your hero murdered. Him the real victim in this omar love in. His widow another real victim. But that just does not fit the lefty poor little omar victim BS, Remember who caused all this a liberal PM who had his murdering terrorist father released from jail. So his terrorist son could be free to murder. Omar is not a canadian and never ever will be. He is a terrorist murderer and is no victim.

Just wondering, Ron: are your published views on this site on Islam and your fellow Canadian Muslims in accordance with those of the other folks at St. Peters? Just curious, because: I know many Lutherans who don’t share the vicious attitudes often expressed on this site.

When I was 15 I was a child. As an adult Ezra Levant should be ashamed of his post.
commented 2015-11-05 01:54:10 -0500
Jay why should he be ashamed? Mcleans should be ashamed of this cover.
commented 2015-11-05 01:53:39 -0500
Jay Kelly not everyone was a child at that age, and you knew right from wrong , please do not claim you did not. Why does the left want people younger than 15 to consent to sex if they are so niave?

Ezra Levant should be ashamed of his post.

Yes, Blair, when I was fifteen years old, growing up in Ontario, I was still a ‘boy’. I was not allowed to have a Learner’s permit and I still played with my friends in forts and we had pretend battles. I had my eye on a certain girl but was too shy to ask her out.
My father never dragged me to a war zone and put my in harm’s way.
Omar Khadar was a boy soldier and now he has the chance to be a man in Canada. Do you really want to deny him that?

Well said Blair Skulmoskli! I will never purchase Macleans again!

Jay Kelly – “When he was a fifteen year old Canadian boy Omar Khadr was placed by his father in a situation in Afghanistan where the fort where he was hiding out was attacked and everyone but him was killed.”

Point #1 – Were you a, “boy” when you were 15? I was a young man at 15 and already had a learner’s license. If you are still a, “boy” at the age of 15 that makes you mentally handicapped. Khadr wasn’t a, “boy” he was an ILLEGAL COMBATANT, according to the Geneva Convention, in a war fighting against our country.

Point #2 – What was he doing in the fort with his buddies? Were they playing crib? I guess you missed all of those videos showing him making explosives with a big smile on his face. Are you seriously suggesting he was there by some cosmic, “accident”? The U.S. troops gave him the chance to give himself up. It’s well documented.

Jay Kelly – “Years later he arrived back in Edmonton and, despite his handicaps, he is safe.”

So you are more worried about the safety of a murderer than the widow and children that Khadr made or Sgt. Speer?

Shame on Ezra Levant for this grotesque post.

When he was a fifteen year old Canadian boy Omar Khadr was placed by his father in a situation in Afghanistan where the fort where he was hiding out was attacked and everyone but him was killed. He fought back, but not very successfully. He was shot twice in the back and he lost an eye. When his body was discovered in the rubble it was assumed he would die shortly.
Years later he arrived back in Edmonton and, despite his handicaps, he is safe.
Is it any wonder he has a grin from ear to ear?

I gave up reading MacLeans years ago except for an occasional peek to see if anything has changed. Nothing has: MacLeans is still nothing but a cheer-leader, a Dallas Cowgirl, for the Liberal Party and for left-wing causes and a “hater” for anything conservative or Conservative. It’s not surprising. MacLeans is based in Toronto, just like CTV, CBC and Global and has as much interest in genuine reporting as RT (Russia Today on tv). One of the major – but rarely stated – reasons why MacLeans etc love Omar Khadr is that it’s anti-American to do so, it’s a way of poking a stick in America’s eye. Being anti-American has become a sign of being pro-Canadian. Alas for Canada.

The world is becoming an effed up place. Europe rolling over to the Muslim hordes. Our new PM will do the same. Leftist media celebrating terrorists as a Canadian cause. Liberal white guilt run amok.

Ezra, why is the sound so low. Just a whisper. My speakers are turned up all the way and yet I can barely hear you.

Jack Carter asks me, “So explain why he is in a position that he can see the light of day – never mind wear nice clothes on the cover of a magazine with two victims that clearly have no problem with him.”

Because the judge who allowed his releas and removal of tracking hardware and the two ladies, have also drank the “Omar is such a poooooor little boy” koolaid, and Omar is more than happy to play along. Are not aware that in the Koran it is written that it is okay to lie to infidels?

Pooooooooor little Omar. Sniff, sniff! Those evil conservative treating a confessed murder as a murder. Anyone can see that he was just an innocent 15 years old! Waaaaahhhhhhh! Pooooooooor Little Omar. Come here, Omar, give me a big hug! I feel your pain! Waaaaaahhhhhh!

Wow, calling me a “good Lutheran” coming from a good socialist who would have fit in well with the National Socialist German Workers’ Party and evolutionary eugenics. My, my you are really dreading to hit below the belt. What’s your thoughts on the Palestine/Israel conflict lefty? By the way, “useful idiot”, I would align myself with a good Lutheran like Dietrich Boenhoffer. You may have heard of him. He gave up his life standing up against the Nazi totalitarian regime, the kind of regime a good socialist dreams of. Poor lefty. Dishes it out left (almost exclusively), right and center and then wines like a pig. ‘Help, I am being stalked’, because somebody drew attention to his collection of photos revealing his leftwing bias and orientation and disgust for Ezra that he posted on the publicly available Internet. Shows you up as the coward and dissembler that he is. Instead of posing as an honest broker, you would think as an proud upstanding lefty socialist, you would be upfront and proud of declaring who you are, what you stand for, such as, presumably anti-oil (since you call Ezra pro-oil) and pro man-made global warming, pro Kadr and pro-Muslim (since you unfairly accuse Ezra of being ant-Muslim, when his real concern is those who are true adherents to the religion of Islam) to the extent that it will disrupt our western culture and help move it towards the socialist utopia you pine for, and proud of your leftwing blog posts, etc. Instead we are treated to a fit of flying cat fur and drummed up accusations when that gets exposed.
