Manning's Centre for Democracy bans dissenters from Danielle Smith event

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

It's no secret now that Preston Manning played a role in the treachery and dirty-dealing between Danielle Smith and Jim Prentice that led Albertans to elect an anti-oil sands NDP government.

The Manning Centre usually promotes their events but for some reason they wanted to keep an event with Smith a secret, even going as far as barring some who had spoken against Smith from attending.

Manning almost destroyed the Wildrose party and now he's working against the oil patch by promoting a carbon tax.

He's not acting like a conservative or like someone who believes in democracy.

Preston should decide what team he's on because the only thing he looks like now is a betrayer, like Smith.

Manning sees the writing on the wall. He’s an opportunist, probably hoping for a future Senate appointment.

I survived the NDP and Federal Liberals in B.C. If you have NDP membership, you have it BOTH provincially and federally, kinda like one big socialist union. As to the other pretender, like father, like son. I foolishly voted PET during Truedoughmania, fool me once… Does Justin still require HIS anointed Lib candidates to support murdering the unborn? Do you know JT was up in the air flying to Gay Pride Parade in Vancouver and was unable to respond to election call? Congratulations to B.C. Premier PROVINCIAL LIBERAL Christy Clark for REFUSING to sign LGBTQ MANIFESTO that Just in TrueDough SIGNED to be in the Parade. Any wonder homo Kathleen Wynn supports ANYONE but our moral, righteous Prime Minister Harper? What a queer bunch these OPPOSERS to good law and order under God are. I pray when they go where they’re personally headed they don’t drag Canada with them.

Traitors to democracy

Isn’t that the guy that made such a huge issue about the excess of Stornoway until he became the opposition and then moved right in?…….lost all respect for him way back then

“Democracies always self-destruct when the non-productive majority realizes that it can vote itself handouts from the productive minority by electing the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury. " Condensed. A victory of the takers over the makers! If polls are correct, Canada is next!

Manning must be suffering from Dementia or Alzheimer, time for him to retire. As for Danielle Smith, I used to admire her but now I think she is a traitor.

Manning is a sell out and should be man enough to admit it. He is no longer a conservative, with conservative values, now he is just a spinner of false values and false ideas for money. I don’t care what he thinks, nor do I care about the lies and tales being spun by Danielle Smith. Nobody cares what either one of you has to say, about anything!

I like Preston Manning. I have never met the man but he seems genuine and intelligent.
I have to say I don’t agree with his recent political shift on carbon and global warming. Any involvement with Daniel Smith defecting to the PC’s is also troubling.
Maybe Preston has changed his mind on issues? He must think he is doing what is best for conservatives?

It is interesting how conservatives are framed as people who don’t care about the environment, or about minorities, or care about social issues, or democracy. We do care about these issues and what is more we also care about other people and our fellow citizens. Conservatives just have a different view on how to tackle the problems. Maybe Preston just got beat down and lost his way or his will. I don’t particularly like it but I do understand it.
One thing though, we really could use an elder statesman with a conservative background in this country. Old politicians Like Preston have an important role to play. It’s like when you grow up and your relationship with your parents changes. You don’t need your parents to put a roof over your head anymore but it is nice to call up Dad and get some advice on what insurance to buy or how to get his grandson to do his homework.
I guess I am lamenting for the conservative Preston of years gone by – maybe he will call up one day just to see how we are doing. Maybe he could still encourage a new generation of conservatives?

Manning has been a traitor to Alberta for years. Ever since he stopped Reform from creating provincial parties. Manning and his type are factor for why democracies always self destruct. Below was taken from, What our forefathers This country can’t be far from collapse.

Democracies always self-destruct when the non-productive majority realizes that it can vote itself handouts from the productive minority by electing the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury. To maintain their power, these candidates must adopt an ever-increasing tax and spend policy to satisfy the ever-increasing desires of the majority. As taxes increase, incentive to produce decreases, causing many of the once productive to drop out and join the non-productive. When there are no longer enough producers to fund the legitimate functions of government and the socialist programs, the democracy will collapse, always to be followed by a Dictatorship.

It’s likely that the Wildrose membership would not have gone along with Danielle’s merger wishes. Then she would have resigned and the Party would still have been into a leadership race in the same timeframe and been less than fully prepared to fight slippery Jim’s early election. Perhaps the blame should go to the low information voters who failed to support the Wildrose Party in the four byelections and started the whole unfortunate process.

Ezra do you know for sure that Manning explicitly advised the Wildrose MLAs to defect? I believe that he only advised them in a general sort of way that it might be necessary to join forces to keep the NDP from winning. That turned out to be true. Even so they should have put it to a vote of the membership before actually doing it.

It’s so tragic. By the time the NDP is finished with Alberta, there won’t be enough left of it to be worth salvaging. It will be a carbon-less copy of Ontario, with a smashed economy, welfare rolls eating up all taxes, a socialist masterpiece.

Nevertheless, I applaud Ezra for laying blame where it is due, because that is the first step in avoiding making the same mistakes again, and trying to eventually turn this catastrophe around. That said, I hope the right will get past it, unite under Wild Rose and take back whatever is left of Alberta in the next election and start the work of reconstructing Alberta.

Preston is definitely not a chip off the ole block (his dad Ernest) . I agree with Ezra, he is a traitor.

Peter Netterville: Indeed.

Well, I don’t worry too much about Ol’ Preston. It’s not like he’s going to draw away any votes, is it?
He and Danielle can read tea leaves and worry about the way things might have been for the rest of their days.

Manning must be broke or is on the outs from Conservative circles.

So now manning is a nazi pig. Wouldn’t be the first traitor Canada produced. He’s old. He’ll die soon.

Manning’s bizarre actions in the past year make me wonder if there is something “more” going on here?… The greenies would no doubt say he has had his “conversion on the road to Damascus”… But I would challenge some real investigative reporters in Alberta to do some digging and talk to his closest friends and family… Is he just “off his meds”(?) or seeking new revenue sources (?), or, to put it delicately – is old age catching up to him a bit early?… He is contradicting everything he stood for back in his Reform Party days…

Manning = a has been, that is trying desperately to hold onto some semblance of power.
Like others I never liked this guy and never trusted him. Could never really put my finger on why I never liked or trusted him, but there was something and still is about him that prompted my dislike.
He should just go away and stay away.

I’ve never really liked how he plays this elder statesman on the sidelines crap, like a lot of others in this country do like Clark or Rae or Broadbent. Why didn’t he just let the clowns who still like to make love to the TV cameras and microphones (and the people who vote for them still) figure out the mess for themselves?
