Media narrative on Doug Ford’s “costly” van customization doesn’t add up

David MenziesMission Specialist

Doug Ford’s plan to spend $50,000 to customize a van for his travel needs, has finally given the media party a scandal that will enable them to crucify Ontario’s fiscally conservative Premier.

CBC sleuths came across a court document indicating that the van will have several specialty items, including a mini-fridge, a 32-inch television with Blu-ray player, a leather power reclining sofa bench, four swivel chairs and desks. The total price is $50,696 including HST.

Barely a media scrum goes by these days without journalists grilling the Premier about that proposed customized van. They’re obsessed about it even though it appears the people of Ontario couldn’t care less.

The media narrative is of course that by opting for this custom ride, Ford is a hypocrite, but do the facts bear that out?

Of course not, especially when you compare the customization cost to how much previous Liberal Premiers billed the taxpayers for their vehicles.

And speaking of Liberal leaders and their vehicles, if the CBC really wants a shocking story of entitlement, shouldn’t they be looking into Justin Trudeau’s plane costs?

The youngsters of today have learned what George Orwell called “doublethink”….

The very precotious son of one of my friends recently talked about the course at his high school concerning “fake news”….I did my “IN THE NEWS TODAY” rant….he took notes and he was smiling…I hope he didn’t get in any trouble….;-)

Andrew Stephenson that is not proof or even reasonable.
And the percentage of home schooled going to Stanford doe snot prove your point, how many home schooled wanted to go there? You do not know so your conclusion is ridiculous.

The first requirement of all Politicians is to have the ability to look someone in the eye and smile, while the lie to them. Liberals and NDP are real experts at this….Practice makes perfect.

LMAO @ Stephenson

You proved squat troll as per usual. You live by lies, slander, and innuendos and that is not something to be proud of, but apparently you are. Your brand of stupid just can’t be fixed.

Moderator: Drive-by Andy, still reeling from all the disasters befalling our hapless PM, seeks solace by criticizing relatively modest expenditures by Ford, while remaining silent with respect to massive abuses of the public purse by the Dauphin. One would almost suspect his criticisms are not sincere.

“I lived in Ontario and I know how much time is wasted commuting to airports and waiting for screwups in flight scheduling. Not even a nice try TROLL. "

The province owns a couple King Airs for various purposes, including transporting the Premier. They do not fly commercially and thus not subject to “flight scheduling”.

Andrew Stephenson who said he tried to hide it? Please provide proof that he did such a thing. "

Apparently, it was to be paid for out of a general OPP slush fund, and they were specifically instructed to keep the costs hidden within that slush fund. This came out of the woodwork when he tried to appoint his buddy Ron Taverner to lead the OPP.

You still haven’t proven your previous lies “Stephenson””

LOL, you’re really sore about being called out, aren’t you? You never showed that it was a lie. In fact, considering I was speculating on a future event, it can’t be. But, again, 3% general population homeschooled, 0.5% of Stanford student body (your own example) homeschooled. Were that Black kids, there would be a task force investigating the failures of the system.

If he was a Liberal and bought a helicopter, the same media bobbleheads would OO and Ahhh and ask for a ride.

There are few things on God’s Green Earth as dense as a committed Progressive and their cheerleaders in the media.

Robert Greeley said, “Premier Ford.. Are you approving the 53% increase on water and sewage on the Bancroft Citizens of Ontario?”

I think you know that each town/city has its’ own elected government. No Premier of any province governs the municipalities.

If you have a problem with the increase in water & sewage costs in Bancroft, then take it up with the Bancroft government.

Place the blame on the proper people.

The question is why he tried to hide it.

The other major question is whether any leader of any other 100b+ corporation would waste six hours a day driving around because he wanted to save money on flying. At some point executive time is worth more than the fiscal costs of the flight.

Hey Andrea (your are not fooling me about being a lesbian feminist TROLL)…the biggest leftist douchebag in history…Leon Trotski…travelled around in an armoured train …frequently using wooden “double cross” grave markers as fuel…even if that meant machine gunning down those who objected….

I lived in Ontario and I know how much time is wasted commuting to airports and waiting for screwups in flight scheduling. Not even a nice try TROLL.

You still haven’t proven your previous lies “Stephenson”
(Andrew Stephenson commented “A plan that will inevitably result in the little darlings marching alongside the other unemployables in some future version of the Yellow Vests, either because they neglected to notice that some kid in Vietnam has access to the same resources and is just as qualified for a third the price, or because Darling is unable to get along with his non-binary coworker. The bubbled homeschool ones do really badly outside their bubble. " )
yet here you are spewing even more innuendoes and slander, such a leftard.

The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make themselves a stench and bring shame on themselves.

Then again, it’s Doug Ford. Perhaps he is best left sitting in the back of a shag van.

ps – Hillier was booted because he didn’t clap and tweet the talking points enough.

I’m beginning to think the liberals and ndp run the province as they- especially the ndp via HORWATH – even though she represents what’ 2- 3 ridings, is like a dog with a bone as her big mouth is forever open and screaming to deflect what Ford is doing and saying.
why bother voting if the libs, ndp/lefties are lying, bullying, screaming and forever shooting their mouths off and the media hangs on their every word??
AS the rebel states, have a good look at how wynne got around and oh yeah, trudeau, our GOD , LORD AND MASTER WHO SETTLES FOR NOTHING OTHER THAN THE BEST OFF OUR DIME!
SOMEONE HAS TO SHUT HORWATH UP. WE’RE ALL TIRED OF HER MOUTH !

You know what? Ford is nothing but a big, yellow bastard. He has just booted the only true conservative MPP out of the Party. Hiller’s crime? He refuses to be politically correct.

It disappoints me to read that Jamie. It never pays to make ANY concession to political correctness….it’s like relenting in tug-o-war….even for a moment.

Surely you jest, CBC will NOT bite the hand that pours even more tax funds into the seemingly bottomless tax trough that CBC leeches from.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/liberals-pledge-675-million-in-cbc-funding/article29354285/
“…A $675-million pledge by the Liberal government – which includes $75-million in new funds for the rest of this fiscal year followed by an extra $150-million annually through 2021 – is the anticipated centrepiece of an array of new cultural spending totalling nearly $1.9-billion over the next five years….”

CBC says don’t count on Kenney being Premier just yet. CBC not too clear on this story yet.

I agree with Jamie MacMaster; the only real scandal about Premier Doug Ford is the expulsion of MPP Randy Hillier from the caucus and party. People in the Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston riding are outraged along with others who realize what just happened here. It appears there is no room in today’s Ontario PC Party for conservative voices or for those who believe their elected duty is to represent their constituents to the government. All PC MPP’s are on notice!

Besides the essentially wasteful use of the government jet, never a peep from the CBC about Baby Doc Trudeau’s alcohol bill for that government jet. Only the best grape for him! Maybe he isn’t really a verbal stumbling idiot but a drunk verbal stumbling idiot?

Then again, we have seen him barely able to stand up on stage at a conference or two, needing to hold on to someone to be able to maintain his balance. His skills include not only being able to trip over his words, but able to trip over his own feet.

The People’s Broadcaster? The $1.5 billion subsidised government mouthpiece? The CBC (once referred to as Calgary Bubblegum Chewers by Wayne and Shuster) looks away and whistles.

Why hasn’t the CBC investigated all the over priced European luxury sedans and sports cars the taxpayer’s money bought for the personal (and under use) by entitled Ministerial departments? Sheila Gunn Reid was able to ferret this information out. So why can’t the CBC do likewise? Is it a matter of biting the hand that feeds, or maybe the government would start looking into the CBC’s fleet of transportation and financial waste?

Time well past to sell off the CBC and, if only we could, our dumber than a rock PM Trudeau.

This is just a replay of the faux media outrage over Bev Oda’s $16.00 orange juice. Ford should just ignore the media and move on.
