People around the world have been moved by the photo of three-year-old Aylan Kurdi, whose body washed up on a Turkish beach. The migrant child died, along with this brother and mother, when their boat capsized.
Reports, now proven false, claimed Abdula Kurdi's sister in Vancouver had applied to bring them to Canada and that application was denied.
Regardless, the Media Party and the opposition is cynically exploiting this tragedy as a way to attack Stephen Harper. Mulcair's statement that Canada is "doing nothing" is extraordinary, since he wants to halt airstrikes against ISIS -- the terrorists who created the crisis.
Justin Trudeau's remarks weren't any better, saying Canada isn't what it used to be. I give the Liberal leader a lesson in his own party's history in response, and lists all the humanitarian aid Canada has directed to Syria.
Finally, a reminder that refugees don't just need help from government. All of us can step up as part of our communities to assist them as well.
