The media backlash from our Alberta Rally for Families in both Edmonton and Calgary is still going strong over a few chants of “Lock Her Up” and a fake news storyline in the mainstream media started by activist group, Raging Grannies.
What I haven’t seen in the mainstream media are any stories about struggling Albertans. There were thousands in attendance.
Instead, there were a lot of stories and tweets about The Rebel which fall into the fake news category.
The CBC brought in an academic to call us “deplorable” because they couldn’t do it themselves, mainstream media reporters are calling us illegitimate because we engage in some activism, others say we were playing into the hands of the NDP by calling conservative politicians out for bending to the media and throwing their frustrated constituents under the bus.
One reporter couldn’t even be bothered to call us by name. Keep in mind that less than a year ago, most of these journalists were in support of us being at government press conferences which speaks to their deep hypocrisy.
The reaction from the media is ironic since this is exactly what people are tired of - the media not reporting the news.
These rallies were about the suffering people of Alberta but the mainstream media made it about chants and signs and The Rebel.
It’s a sign of the times. We’re hearing a lot about fake news and the media meltdown over the last week are prime examples of the media not being accountable to the people.
Instead of telling the stories of thousands of hurting Albertans that attended our rallies, they were sacrificed as a trade off in favour of causing a distraction from the mainstream media itself.
