We were promised openness and transparency by default from Trudeau and his Liberals, but it isn't happening.
I can’t help but note that in the last session of Parliament, Trudeau tabled only one private members bill and it was on . . . access to information.
Trudeau’s Bill C-613 promised to make it easier to find out how our money was spent and what our government is up to.
The bill read in part that "government information must be made openly available to the public and accessible in machine readable formats" and "necessary exceptions to the right of access should be rare, limited and specific."
When he introduced the bill, Trudeau said it was vital that citizens be able to examine governments activities but now that he’s in charge, departments are refusing to release basic information?
My point isn't to make this partisan but to show that the other media are busy playing partisan games. Unlike them and Trudeau, we really do believe in your right to know.
The fact that bureaucrats are blaming their lack of response on the Prime Minister by citing his refugee mandate, when that same Prime Minister also promised more openness and transparency, only adds insult to injury.
There are a lot of questions to be asked on how the Syrian refugee situation is being handled. Allowing bureaucrats to put off answering questions until long after the 25,000 or as many as 50,000 refugees are already here, simply means they get to do their jobs as they see fit with no public oversight and that my friends, simply cannot stand.
