Memo: Senators' refusal to walk one block could cost $25 million

Brian LilleyArchive

I've been covering the Senate audit, the investigation that cost $23 million to uncover $1 million in misspending.

But Centre Block is about to be renovated.

That means new temporary offices for Canadian senators -- but they don't want to have to walk too far to get to them.

I'm on the ground in Ottawa so I can show you exactly how "far" they'd have to walk.

Walking that extra block will save taxpayers another $25 million or so.

So will our spoiled senators go along?

“Entitled To Their Entitlements” Soon there will be a bunch of lefties screaming blue murder we are abusing the Senators! Duffy? Oh well, he was a Conservative appointment and therefore evil!

I’d like them to demonstrate how to engage assisted suicide they legislated

It’s to be expected. That’s the quality of people we get when they’re appointed rather than elected. If they’re not held accountable to an electorate, they’ll obviously feel themselves entitled and a justifiable privileged class. This applys to both the Senate and the SCOC.

The Senate?

How do I get a job like that?

Appointed, entitled and for the most part unaccountable.

Brian, did you forget to mention they are only “required” to work 75 days per year? So they could forgo the snow, and just work in the spring and fall for a month each, and happily suck up the gravy.

I had to check to see if my morning coffee was spiked. Then I remembered that we’re talking about the Senate. Ugh… “I don’t want to walk an extra block, because I’ll get too sweaty.” Give me a break! Those lazy, high maintenance elitist bums are luck that’s all they’re being asked to walk. I had to walk across the city just to get to work! Didn’t matter the temperature, OR the weather. And let’s not forget, some of these people drive! It makes me wonder if some of these whiners are refusing just because they are lazy, or they’re hiding something in their offices. #abolishtheSenate
