Election debate without Justin Trudeau was "pointless"

David MenziesMission Specialist

Pointless: Given that the 2019 Canadian federal election is a two-horse race, most Canadians surely want to see Conservative leader Andrew Scheer going after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s four years of scandal and mismanagement.

But on Thursday, thanks to Trudeau opting not to attend the Maclean's/CityTV leaders debate, we were left with Scheer trading barbs with has-been and a never-was.

So what, pray tell, was the point?

Max is in!

“With the benefit of more recent information, I am of the view that the PPC has attracted a significant number of party members, has established a notable presence in the media and on the political landscape and, based on recent polling data, has achieved a reasonable chance of success in more than one riding,” says Johnston. “All of these factors together enable the PPC to satisfy two of the criteria established in our Order in Council.”

Maybe the Liberal Party should change their red banner to yellow.
“Why did Trudeau skip the first leaders’ debate? The SNC-Lavalin scandal likely had something to do with it
Trudeau knew full well that in Thursday’s debate they would dredge up all those inconvenient truths that have emerged over the past few months”
“It’s worth pointing out that while Trudeau doesn’t have time to debate fellow Canadian political leaders, he did have time to sit down for an extensive one-on-one with American comedian Hasan Minhaj for his show on Netflix. That didn’t turn out as Trudeau’s team hoped, Minhaj skewered him, but they would still rather do that than debate other Canadian politicians.
We can expect more of this from Trudeau as the campaign goes on, few sit-down interviews with political journalists that will know the issues and ask tough questions but plenty of call-ins to morning shows on music radio where the PM hopes for easy banter.”
““Now with 25 per cent fewer leaders.” That was Maclean’s writer Paul Wells’ very apropos quip to introduce the first leaders’ debate of the 2019 federal election campaign. Despite what Liberal partisans might tell you, Justin Trudeau’s absence is neither justifiable nor a good look.”

Even the nationalist party of Maxime Bernier is presenting a platform and leader.

The Canadian democratic system works.

Thanks Jay Kelly for your " Even the nationalist party of Maxime Bernier is presenting a platform and leader."

That must of hurt big time! We won’t back down.. it’s not in our Canadian Heritage to back down!! Remember that Jay Kelly!

Pointless to have a debate without Trudeau? There are several respectable parties in Canada with many positions to present. The New Democratic Party has a platform and leader, as does the Green Party and the Conservative Party. Even the nationalist party of Maxime Bernier is presenting a platform and leader.

Perhaps the Liberal Party is seen as the front-runner and the Trudeau is seen as the natural leader here on the Rebel, but the other parties have a good chance. Others just have to present why they are better.

It is a democracy. Get on the streets and promote your party.

Trudeau has been a no-show not all there MP and then the same as PM for almost his entire term in office. Why would we expect otherwise of him at a Leader’s Debate?

Remember, right after becoming PM he put his and his children’s nannies on the federal payroll and then took a two week vacation. Or was it three weeks?

There was a debate? In Canada? For our upcoming elections? When was this meeting of the Talking Heads announced? I didn’t see any promotion of this event, but that would make sense since I don’t watch the David “CBC” Suzuki network or the self-pious self-important Liza Laflamme.

This definitely would have been a lot funnier than the Democrat joke fest down in the USA if Baby Doc Trudeau came to town with his one man comedy show. Beyond asking him his name, favourite comic super “hero”, hair products, or how was it grabbing Rose Knights (Nights?) ass and other body parts, he would have little to say.

If Baby Doc the wannabe dictator would have graced Canada with his attendance he would have given us a good many stupid, idiotic, inane, moronic and insane quotes to toss out to Liberal diehards. In other words, he would open his mouth and let everyone hear his mental acuity.

Here are some jewels from his past:

How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read if they can’t even fit inside the building?

Honour killings should not be called “barbaric”.

I don’t read the newspapers, I don’t watch the news.

I figure, if something important happens, someone will tell me.

We have to rethink elements as basic as space and time, to go all science fictiony [sic] on you in this sense.

We will grow the economy from the heart outwards.

The budget will balance itself.

A large percentage of small businesses are actually just ways for wealthier Canadians to save on their taxes.

I admire China’s basic dictatorship.

I have tremendous confidence in people who don’t think a lot about politics, terrorism.

Tolerating someone means accepting their right to exist on the condition that they don’t disturb us too, too much.

We should be past tolerance in Canada.

Christians are the worst part of Canadian Society.

The Liberal Party believes that terrorists should be able to keep their citizenship.

If you kill your enemies they win.

Certainly when we look at the great prime ministers of the 20th century, those that really stood the test of time, they were MPs from Quebec.

This country – Canada – it belongs to us (Quebec).

I think it has created one of the most iconic pictures of the election, it sums up exactly what we are voting for, a no show arrogant candidate, or people politician.

Pointless.. embarrassing.. pathetic.. scary.

Sheldon Eisler commented
“Keith Barnes: totally agree that he is definitely a coward and running from the truth,he can’t run forever.”

Justin can keep running because he has CBC and the main stream media that he bribed …err…bailed out to cover for him, also don’t forget the army of paid trolls bought by the Red Tent to spam for him as well.

‘Donnybrook’ Menzoid?!
Ha! Not likey…
Jihadi-Justin-Groper’s pointy head off the teleprompter is a babbling retard – that’s why all he could do last time was interrupt and talk over Prime Minister Stephen Harper…
Justin-stillnotready’s handlers wouldn’t let him go to that McCleans debate – even with the mild-mannered, Smilin’ Andy Steer.
Mad Max? LOL…fugetabutit!

I wonder what’s comin’ down the pike from the Librano Globalists…now that Justaglobalist has got away with being the incumbent PM and NOT DEBATING in a federal election!
How do you spell Western-Fascism-rearing-it’s-ugly-head?!

David, Elizabeth May did have a good zinger summing up the whole affair, “We can all sing Kumbaya and keep going”.

I agree Maurice.

I don’t know why the Rebel is constantly dismissing the chances of Maxime Bernier and his PPC. I know I’m voting for him and I’m sure there are a lot of like-minded people, maybe enough to elect a PPC minority.

It is probably outside Rebel budget, but it would be great if Rebel covered the debates the way Crowder does the Democrat debates, including the drinking game. That is the only way the debates would have interest.

Justin not being there is the same as a win.

It proves how busy he is with the affairs of Canada, and can’ come to any pointless debates.
commented 2019-09-13 17:17:54 -0400
Did poor Justin loose his nerve? Or was it his handlers, who lost theirs?
The kind of people who intend to vote for Trudeau, would not understand if Justin lost the debate, they will be to busy drooling over his pretty face. ‘But’…As sure as hell they will understand what a no show coward is.

Let’s count our blessings that we didn’t have to look at or listen to this stammering clown. The only reason he didn’t show up is because they’ve already rigged the system, and the liberal’s boy has tucked his tail between his legs, and given Canadian’s the Trudeau salute. I’m praying he’s removed and jailed for being traitor to Canadians!

I will be at the Bernier/Rubin Debate here in Hamilton, on the 29’th. Looking forward to it…

Actually Trudeaus absence benefited the Greens and NDP giving them more time than if JT was there. Singh probably gained respect from the left.

Wondering why I wasn’t invited to yesterday’s Maclean’s debate?
A contributing editor to Maclean’s and debate commentator, @andraydomise, flipped off PPC supporters, called them Nazis, and wished them to die in car accidents.
