MEPs vote against EU meme ban

MEPs have just voted against the copyright bill going through the European Parliament that could have effectively banned memes.

Article 13 of the bill would have meant websites would have to use AI to screen potentially copyrighted materials, essentially destroying meme culture online.

But the vote was only slim, and it’s likely to return to the EU for another vote.

One MEP told me it definitely won’t disappear...

They have effectively accepted the US stance; which is the fair use doctrine.
