The federal government’s primary job is to protect its people, but judging by the skyrocketing number of asylum claims coming from Mexican nationals entering our country, that doesn't seem to be a priority for the Liberals.
Asylum claims from Mexican nationals have almost quadrupled since December 2016, when the Trudeau government lifted visa requirements put in place by the Harper Conservatives.
Although only 0.25 per cent of Mexican nationals entering Canada have been implicated in serious crimes, that number has increased on Justin Trudeau’s watch.
The Conservatives had solid reasoning behind their decision to enforce visa requirements: they saw the potential for phoney refugee claims, increased security threats and an unnecessary drain on taxpayer dollars.
The Trudeau Liberals are foolish to think this is a good idea and have clearly thrown common sense out the window.
