The SNC Scandal that has been gripping the nation over the past few weeks just got a lot more interesting. On Wednesday a liberal MP Francis Drouin (who is not typically on the Justice committee) moved for a sudden adjournment of the emergency proceedings.
That is enough on its own set off some alarms, but what The Rebel has uncovered is even more cause for alarm. The Liberal MP in question, Francis Drouin, was the recent employer of the son of a material witness of that very committee.
Michael Wernick, the Clerk of the Privy Council, testified earlier this month, refuting many of the allegations Ms. Wilson-Raybould leveled against Justin Trudeau. Paul Wernick, the son Michael Wernick and recent staffer to the Liberal MP who abruptly adjourned the proceedings on Wednesday was interviewed by Global News a few months ago after he attempted to kill himself in a Parliament Hill office.
This development uncovered by The Rebel, even though Global News quite clearly knew about the connection, calls into question Michael Wernick’s testimony, and whether or not Canadians can trust the non-partisanship of the country's top bureaucrat. Does Wernick not think it is worth noting to the committee that until very recently, his son’s salary was dependent on the electoral success of the Liberal Government?
The Liberals are playing games with this scandal, why is someone so close to Wernick filling-in on the committee on such an important day, when bringing Jody Wilson Raybould back to testify was going to be debated? Was Wilson-Raybould going to say something that would expose Wernick? Was Drouin sent by Trudeau to protect the Prime Minister's loyal Privy Council Clerk? To my knowledge, it was not declared anywhere, by either the witness Michael Wernick or by MP Drouin, that such a flagrant conflict of interest existed.
The child of Canada’s chief public servant worked on the 2015 Liberal Campaign, and worked, until very recently for a Liberal MP who would go on to snuff out the last attempts to shine the light on this national scandal.
This is outrageous and the fact that it took The Rebel to expose this, when the mainstream media knew perfectly well about it, is despicable
As you know Jody Wilson Raybould testified that inappropriate pressure was placed on her - inappropriate political pressure by high level bureaucrats in the liberal government. How lucky for Trudeau - just in the knick of time, the employer of the son of a material witness, who refuted much of Wilson-Raybould’s testimony, comes to committee to save the day for Justin his comrades.
Michael Wernick has retained a lawyer - something that is rarely done by parliamentary witnesses.
