Michael Moore's Anti-Trump Broadway Show Flops

Kristin TateRebel Buzz Contributor

Michael Moore's anti-Trump show on Broadway, "The Terms of My Surrender," failed to impress at the box office.

During the play's 14-week run, it brought in $4.2 million--less than half of what the show had the potential to make.

The show, which closed last weekend after 83 performances, focused on Moore's criticism of Trump.

The show that ran before "The Terms of My Surrender" was "The Glass Menagerie." It was performed in the same theater and brought in $5.4 million with 85 performances.

Moore has been one of Trump's most outspoken critics. The filmmaker loves portraying himself as a fighter for the "little guy," but seems to be out-of-touch with many working-class Americans in this country. Trump even won last November in Moore's home state of Michigan, a state that typically votes Democrat. Yet Moore has made no meaningful effort to ask average Americans why they turned out in droves and voted for Trump.

Many top Broadway critics hated Moore's play, too!

From the New Yorker

What’s clear within minutes is that Moore doesn’t have a late-night comedian’s timing. He punctuates his own jokes with nervous giggles, mumbles between lines, and, despite his baggy frame, has little sense of himself as a physical comedian.

From the Los Angeles Times

I have no political beef with Moore...but I found myself cringing at the self-congratulatory applause that would break out when he would utter one of his pieties. And I lost patience with the way he seemed to want both sympathy for being a victim of the right and adulation for being the champion of all mankind.

Apparently, Moore hasn't been reading the reviews. He told the Wall Street Journal that he's thinking about "taking this show on the road."

Please don't.

“Andrew people were willing to pay more to see that, is your small mind finding that too hard to grasp? "

That woujld be the higher ticket prices I mentioned in the second line of my previous post? Are we just not bothering to read anymore? LOL.

By the way, the revenue per ticket was 55 for Moore and 63 for its predecessor. I’m sure the eight bucks was the dealbreaker there.

leviticus: You’re vomiting because of words on the internet? I believe, by some definitions, that makes you a snowflake, good sir.

It cracks my teeth to agree with the contrary Ms Angela but I would have to say that Michael Moore’s financial intake of over $4 million over a 14 week run can hardly be considered a failure in less it cost him over 4 million to produce those shows over the course of fourteen wks.

I am choking on my own vomit here.. However leading by example hopefully may encourage the confused Ms. Angela that even though there’s things she hates in other venues she should support the truth and not the naritive.

What more does need to realize that Moore is an obese narcissist, who relishes in self-adulation and applause.

Moore was even offering free tickets to fill the seats. “I will play for your ticket,” he said in a tone of utter desperation on Stephen Colbert’s insane excuse for a late night talk show. Jimmy Fallon wins every time because he is entertaining, really funny, and has no axes to grind. And he gets the guest that audiences want to see. Colbert gets stuck with Moore and Keith Olbermann.

Moore cannot hide his enormous wealth or the very strong possibility that his ex-wife will talk about his excesses – non-disclosure agreement or not.

What next for Moore?

Rumours suggest that he is transitioning into a woman. Yes, Michael Moore intends to become a trans-female feminist.

He’s morbidly obese already, so he halfway there.

Interestingly, though. The Glass Menagerie only did better because of higher ticket prices. In terms of seat occupancy, they only sold 75% of available seats, whereas Moore sold 78%.

I’d find it hard to call a performance that sells 75-80% of seats, consistently, for almost three months, and made millions of dollars in the process, a “flop”.

Why does this slob think he is so smart or important?

You can’t judge the production to be a “flop” based on the numbers given. Revenues were $4.2 million; but what were the costs? It sounds like a pretty inexpensive show to put on, and probably made a profit – which is far from a sure thing on Broadway. Revenues per show were down only 20% compared to the (doubtless more expensive) production that preceded it. So, again, it looks like it was a financial success.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Moore is a clown in the bad sense. But he is a clown whose ideas are popular among a large swath of the American public – especially in NYC.

A blatant effort to cash in on what Moore perceives as widespread Trump hatred which he thought he could attain with no real effort at all. Pitiful.

This reminds me of that old Cemetery in the Deep South, called Boot Hill. On one of the Grave Stones it says;

Here lies Less Moore, Six Slugs from a a 44, No Less no Moore.

Perhaps one of Michael’s ancestors.

The biggest flop is this communist pig MOORE.

… One day these people are going to come out openly and honestly, all of them on a tour called “Haters”, and they will just take turns trying to outdo each other with obscenities and bullying of their president.
… All of these people are going to get what they deserve in the end.

I’m not interested in what Michael Moore has to say, seeing him live would ruin my day!

Moore: everything he hates can be seen in his mirror.
