Middle East News: Rouhani tweets Rosh Hashana message; Mexican tourists killed in Egypt and more

Igal HechtIsrael Correspondent

Disturbing daily life for Muslims, Jews and Christians in the old city of Jerusalem, Palestinian extremists barricaded themselves in the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday, throwing fireworks and stones at police as they entered the site. PLUS:

* At least 12 people were killed and 10 injured in Egypt's south-western desert on Sunday when security forces mistakenly fired on a group of Mexican tourists;

* YNet Daily reports that Israel is reviewing a Qatari and Palestinian Authority financed proposal to lay pipeline to transport natural gas between Israel and the Gaza Strip;

* In a Twitter message, sent just in time for Rosh Hashanah, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani wished the Jewish people a Happy New Year.

Barry – your Aussie conspiracy theory is an insult.

ISIS has attacked inside both Jordan and Saudi Arabia but because they, together with all the other “green countries”, have strong governments and military and have been successful therefore, so far, to fight off ISIS attacks.

The USA is not ISIS. You need to lay off the hallucinogenics for a while. Let your head clear.

Thanks, Igal, for your measured, unbiased reports. I like that you noted how the extremists causing trouble at al-Asqa interfered with the worship of not only Christians and Jews but also of Muslims.

I wish we could believe Rouhani’s good wishes were sincere.

That video is wrong! Egypt is an Ally as is Turkey they are not very good allies but both have US Bases. The author of the video is just trying to foment hatred against the USA by making it look like the USA is the reason for the Islamist Caliphate rather that the Koran that requires it’s followers to propagate a world wide Caliphate! The retard doing the video is probably an Australian Muslim supporter of ISIS. I don’t know how Barry can think this is curious … must be a truther!

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said what? What day is it in the Muslim Calendar … April 1st?
But seriously, I would like to think this is sincere but his track record makes me suspicious.

ISIS does not require US funding. They are flooding the market with cheap oil and receiving shake down …or should I spell that Sheik down…protection money from the Saudis.

Seems to me that the guy in the clip with the map is mistaking correlation with causation. Maybe the places where there is ISIS activity aren’t US allies because the kind of countries where ISIS is popular for the same reasons really detest the US.
