Regular Rebel viewers are likely familiar with the year-long saga of our efforts to donate funds raised by you, our generous viewers, to a military charity. Well, after being rejected TWICE, we finally have some good news.
More than a year after this mission began, it is now time to file this under “Mission Accomplished” after we found a charity in Alberta run by a veteran who helps other veterans, some of whom have suffered from PTSD.
The charity is called Grow Calgary, a non-profit organization that bills itself as Canada’s largest urban community farm.
Grow Calgary harvests tons of produce for social agencies in Calgary that have food access programs. As well, Grow Calgary also constructs portable micro-homes as a way of addressing homelessness. Veterans serve as volunteers at the non-profit organization, and are also recipients of its various programs.
Earlier this week I was Alberta-bound to present Grow Calgary founder Paul Hughes with that cheque for more than $15,000.
Watch as Paul accepts the cheque and expresses his gratitude for your generous donation.
