Montreal has joined the chorus of Toronto gun grabbers looking to strip handguns away from the law abiding as a means to deal with the gang violence and illegal guns plaguing many of Canada’s urban areas.
Never in recent history, have Canadian gun owners been more demonized, scapegoated and held accountable for the actions of those not within the ranks of the lawful and licensed.
But the good news is there have never been more of us.
For the twenty-first consecutive quarter, the number of licensed firearms owners has grown, adding 60,000 new PAL holders between January and June.
At 2.169 million licensees, there are now 500,000 more gun licence holders in Canada than play organized hockey!
Is this the Obama effect — an act of political rebellion against the powers that threaten their gun rights? Or are people just waking up to how fun shooting is?
I ask an expert those questions, and more.
Tony Bernardo of the Canadian Shooting Sports Association joins me tonight to discuss gun ownership stats, his predictions for gun rights at the upcoming Conservative convention in Halifax and what he thinks the Liberals really mean to do about our handguns.
