MRU Trump hat: What do students really think?

Holly NicholasRebel Commentator

Everyone’s talking about the Trump hat incident at Calgary’s Mount Royal University. It seems special snowflake safe space advocate Zoe Slusar was triggered when she came across student Matt Linder wearing a Make America Great Again cap in the hallway.

When Zoe’s thought policing arguments broke down, her next move was to threaten to get the President of the school involved and call in the officials!

Except, here’s what the President said in a statement about the incident:

“I have seen the video and want to emphasize that I believe, both as an individual and as the president of Mount Royal University, freedom of speech is fundamental to post-secondary institutions and to society as a whole. Universities play a critical role in society as places where students and other groups can share and listen to different perspectives in a respectful and peaceful way. We will continue to protect this freedom of expression."

Do university students believe their places of study are safe spaces that should be devoid of intellectual debate, free from the experience of being introduced to new ideas? Do they believe that freedom of expression should be suppressed, even if they find it offensive?

I went to Mount Royal University to ask students what they thought about the incident, whether they thought the university should be a safe space and who they would support in the American election if they were able to vote.

Overall, the answers surprised me. I was expecting to be greeted by a bunch of social justice warriors but the responses were contrary to what we’re being led to believe by reports coming out of universities lately.

We hear stories of young people triggered by the smallest things but the students I spoke with, no matter who they were voting for, valued free speech which had me wondering if millennials are more freedom orientated than they’re portrayed.

I think there is a place for safe spaces… However, not what most folk think they are… They are a place that you can go and drag your demons out of the darkness and into the light and get a good look and get acquainted with them… It’s a place where others are safe from you…

Richard Man i am from Edmonton and sadly you are right, too many of these fools around, it shows in how they drive and they cannot even park. My “I stand with Israel” shirt is fun to wear as well here.Especially on Whyte Ave.

Hi Holly. Maybe you can wear a Trump cap in your videos for the next few weeks.

By the way, seeing what a bunch of useless tits the universities produce, I’ve got my kids started in investing and running their own business. Their real life training will dwarf the pansey shit the universities teach.

I just got my Trump hat in the mail. My God I can’t wait to go to the lefty capital of Alberta (Edmonton) and watch the responses I get from those retards. Lol. They will really squeal when he wins the election. But then again, show those idiots a pic of the Oilers or Eskimos and they forget all about real life. Hahahaha!!

Safe Space is for a baby, not a university student. Grow up & deal with the real world, otherwise, wrap yourself up in bubble wrap & go veg somewhere until you are grown up enough to fit in today’s society & deal with every day life & that Zoe, whatever her name is, she’s a moron & obviously only there to warm up the bench she’s sitting on in class. That guy should have told her to take her hat off because it made her even look more moronic if that is possible.

Most of these kids are the ‘only’ child of professional parents.
They haven’t learned the social and survival skills from brothers and sisters.
They need a ‘safe’ place because they can’t deal with conflict (difference of opinion), don’t know how to respect their peers (older siblings teach you this lesson) and simply don’t want to grow up or participate in any form of harmony (brothers and sisters bicker and then forget about it).
Families also teach each other how to protect and stand up for each other.
Now, that is a safe space.

I think that Zoe tramp should wear appropriate clothing for a professional situation. She looks like she just came off night shift on Hollywood Boulevard

I wish that little beyotch was working in my field – we would kick her arse to the curb ad leave her crying for Mommy.

The women we have in-house are some of the best – tough – smart and ready to rock and roll.

Who the hell raised this snowflake?

Shame on them.

These kids are in for a surprise in the real world, I have my hat and cant wait to trigger some SJW.

Here’s a thought about those “safe spaces”. What they really are are spaces safe from right wing thought. I’ll bet if you placed a microphone in one of these places you’d hear nothing but unending and obscene anti-conservative rants. Maybe the universities et al should start making safe spaces for capitalists, where we can all get together and bitch about socialism! But that’s down the road. I say what needs to be done is just that – out the SJW’s as the haters that they are.

These are the children who’s parents praised them for everything they did. Oh, how wonderful you made a mess. Good girl! You showed up for ski class and received an award (as did all your classmates) for being present. You had a D in science? Well you worked really hard on that so we are taking you to Disney World to make you feel better about yourself.

For those who wonder where the attitude of entitlement came from, its from the parents and school systems that rewards everyone no matter how undeserving they are. We now have sports leagues where no scores are kept and everyone is a winner. We wouldn’t want the poor, poor child to feel pressured or not have self worth. Its the bell curving of social interaction and – drum roll please – privilege they are told they deserve.

So many students now in university are barely capable of writing a coherent report, can’t speak in (like, uh, you know, like, uh) a coherent manner, expect top grades for simply paying their tuition, and want to be treated as adults yet expect everything to be handed to them on a platter as when they were in elementary school.

When the hat was taken (stolen) the student should have called campus security. It was recorded so its a slam dunk. The blond wouldn’t let him go further down the hall, make a complaint about illegal confinement. Oh yes, her confronting him in an aggressive manner in what should be a safe space for differing opinions should be a complaint to the student society.

The school, at the least, should discipline the blond and the hat grabber. Being social (in)justice warriors does not give them license to break laws or impose their will on others.

From years working in a university I learned two things: most (not all) students lie, and every failure on their part is everyone else’s fault.

Drew – You can’t save a drowning man if he seeks virtue through drowning.

I suspect we will see little Zoe, in a few years when we visit Moxies for a steak and brew – our Moxies waitress will greet us with a warm, “Hello, my name is Zoe, and I have a Master’s degree in Social Justice, which has indebted my parents to the tune of $100,000. What sort of drinks can I start you off with today?”

Reality is the final leveler of stupidity.

Hey Zoe , the communists you think like have selected 2 jobs for you, either mopping up at peep show booths or cleaning toilets, so pick one or go to jail.
Hey Zoe , the Islamists you are offended for want to mutilate your genitals and cover you up in a bag, and you must remain silent unless a man allows you to speak.

Surprisingly … a little less dismal than I expected. Even the brown kid wasn’t jumping on the grievance industry bandwagon.
Could have been much worse. Faint glimmers of hope. We need to get some good conservative governments in place and show these kids things can be a lot better than they are.

That president should be in line for the highest award that Canada has to offer… Maybe he should give up his tenure and seek political office.

It’s like so easy to like point out who like the Hillary supporters are, like.
Fucking idiotic kids.

OH, BTW snow flakes ALL gun free zones are NOT “safe spaces”.

You’ll find this out in stark reality when radical Islam comes stabbing/bombing/shooting its way into your “safe space”.

And Holly next time you interview some MRU guys, pick a couple from the Cougars defensive line instead of these specimens which have been taking estrogen treatments.

It’s a travesty this eternal child haunts an institution of learning. This pathetic creature has no original thought, no personality except any snow flake meme that comes out of her iPhone twitter acct. – bloody pathetic.

Look pumpkin, if you are so paranoid a hat sends you scurrying for a "safe space™ " Maybe you should not leave home in the morning because the real world is just too traumatizing for you.

What a dim bitch and the bony ass hat thief needs a punch in the mouth. 10 years ago I would have been happy to see my daughters attend university now days I would be violently opposed.

Good vid. This is the issue we have in provincial politics. The NDP push the “crying babies” at us, and say , “see, this is what ALL Albertans want,” when in reality, they are just USING them to foist their ridiculous, and dangerous policies onto Alberta.
commented 2016-09-20 15:37:44 -0400
Are these children in for a shock when they find out there are no jobs for them in Alberta
and no jobs for them in Canada. and when they wake up and look across the border and see what Trump has done to bring jobs into the U.S. and brings responsible immigration to the U.S.A.
Listening to them it make me more sure that the voting age should be raised to 25 years old.

Such social justice warriors deserve to be kicked in the balls or vagina and left gasping for some intellectual and moral truth.
